Once there was a traveller, traveling from one village in mountains to another one in the valley. On the way to the village in the valley, he met a monk and asked him about the village in the valley.
“Can you tell me how the village in the valley is?”
The monk looks up, gives a smile and asks the traveller,
“How was the village on the mountains?”
“Terrible!”, the traveller says. “No one spoke my language, I had to sleep on the floor and had to eat the food that I never had in my life and weather was very unfamiliar”
“Hmm” says the monk. “You will pretty much find the village in valley very similar”.
A few hours later, another traveller was passing from the same path. He too met the monk and asked, “Can you tell me how the village in the valley is?”.
The monk looks up, gives a smile and asks the traveller the same question,
“Can you tell me how the village in the mountains was?”
“It was great!” says the traveller. “No one spoke my language, so I learnt the sign language and communicated with people. I slept on the floor, like everyone does there and had a great experience eating food that I had never tasted in my life. I had so much fun and learning, it was the best time in my life”.
“Hmm” says the monk. “You will pretty much find the village in the valley very similar”.
What does the story tell us, in the context our organization & people inside?
Let's consider this story in the context of the people and teams in the organization. Think of the organization as the village you are in, think of your stay at the village and the transition from village to village as your own individual journey in your career.
Stressful and pressure situations are fairly common in our offices and workplaces, like the traveller faced in the village. However, successful people respond to situations with optimism, hope and they find opportunity in everything.
Situations will never be in our hands, but what we can control is the response and reaction to situations. It is in our hands to shape up the life inside village and journey between villages. So, make it about optimism, hope, full of belief and carry a can-do attitude to achieve great heights.
There will always be reasons to complain and give up, but we should not allow anything to take away our optimism, happiness and joy.
Success is everyone’s mission, and as we learn from the story, life is full of challenges and opportunities, however, depends on how we look at and respond to situations. It re-emphasizes that there are no alternatives to hard work and dedication.
It is up to individual to define their own path for their own success using those.
Good luck!
