As a Christian, I know that through Jesus' Redemptive death and subsequent Resurrection, eternal life had been purchased for those of us who believe we know this to be so. As we aspire to this grand beatitude, what guidance do we have, where are the guideposts?
We know certain things in history because there is evidence of them, bone fragments, pottery, ancient tablets, and even images or statues. When an archaeologist uncovers something, it is indeed important as it is a window into the past, and invokes memories of those from the past.
The history of the earth and its inhabitants would not be known but for those who asked good questions! What is this? Who are they? Why was this necessary? The willful destruction of graveyards and monuments is tantamount to burning books.
Memory is a form of eternal life that is passed on through oral/sensual, and written/visible means. our mind, our memory helps us formulate what next? Then the memory is twisted or deformed, and it loses its value as a data point for decision-making. For us, Government-issued Grave Markers and Headstones are key data points, memory nuggets that help make sense of who we are as Americans.

This is an important lens to use when we look at cleaning graves. In Remember Veteran Grave Markers Inc., we do not clean the grave because we know the person, we clean them because they did something, they served. We also do this to Preserve, Honor, and Remember, thereby restoring dignity.
The rallying cries of, "Remember the Alamo", Remember Pearl Harbor", "Remember the Holocaust" and "Remember 9-11" are made to ensure that the memory does not fade and the lessons of the event are seared into our memory. Yet the frail human tendency is to forget.
In the movie Coco, eternal life is made manifest through human memory (not to be confused with Eternal Life made manifest through Christ). We who clean Veteran Graves, are historians who preserve memories for future generations, thereby allowing the Veteran to live another generation in the hearts and minds of those who visit.
The exclamation to, "Keep the memory alive!" for us is a desire and a passion. #rvgminc
