ETD SCREENERS! THIS IS FOR YOU.

ETD SCREENERS! THIS IS FOR YOU.

Pivoting away from our SAFE or THREAT game for a moment. I want to touch base with all my fellow ETD screeners to reintroduce a product I sincerely believe in. The TSA-Approved Dual Mode Verification Trap (DMVT) is one of those incredibly useful consumables that just doesn't get the love it deserves.

The DMVT is a single-use, pre-loaded trap used for verification of the QS-B220 detector. The QS-B220 OEM contractually supplies each detector with a starter set of two "canisters" for verification. One canister verifies the Positive ions (narcotics and one explosive in the library have positive ions). The other canister verifies the Negative ions (explosives). A screener must sample the substance in each canister, changing gloves and traps after each verification analysis. Not so with DMVT. One DMVT performs the verification for both Positive and Negative ions, with no changing of traps and gloves.

Just the cost savings of hundreds of traps and gloves per detector annually should be enough to convince any screener that the DMVT is superior. Unfortunately, there is still some resistance to switching to DMVT because of mostly erroneous information. Yes, the DMVT is approved by the TSA/TSL. No, you should not be forced to use the OEM canisters. You have a choice.

There are other issues with canister verification:

  • Touching the canisters at least three times daily, which causes the potential spread of contamination across checkpoints (even with changing gloves)
  • Canisters are dropped, making them instantly unusable
  • Sometimes broken canisters ARE used, causing over-contamination inside the detector
  • The amount of wasted traps and gloves on successful and failed verifications (2200 sample traps and 2200 gloves per detector annually!)
  • Leaving canister lids open, causing contamination with anything they touch
  • Mixing up A and B canisters during the verification procedure
  • Problems with storage of A and B canisters
  • Leaving a sample trap in a canister in order to get a good verification (causes an overload of contamination in the detector)

Leave it to DSA Detection.?We solved all the messy verification canister problems listed above with a single, easy-to-use verification trap.
