The term "metaverse" refers to a collective virtual shared space, created by the convergence of virtually enhanced physical reality and physically persistent virtual space, including the sum of all virtual worlds, augmented reality, and the internet. It is the concept of a virtual reality space that is created by the convergence of virtually enhanced physical reality and physically persistent virtual space. The term was coined by science fiction author Neal Stephenson in his 1992 novel Snow Crash.
In the context of virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR), a metaverse is a shared virtual space where people can interact with each other and with virtual objects and environments in real-time. It can be accessed via VR headsets or AR devices, or through a computer or mobile device using a web browser.
One of the key features of a metaverse is that it is persistent, meaning that it continues to exist even when an individual is not logged in. This allows for a sense of continuity and connection to the virtual space, and enables users to build and maintain relationships with others within the metaverse.
There are several examples of metaverses that have been developed in recent years. One of the most well-known is Second Life, a virtual world created by Linden Lab that allows users to create and customize their own avatars, buy and sell virtual goods and services, and interact with other users in a variety of settings. Another example is the virtual world of the massively multiplayer online game World of Warcraft, in which players can explore and interact with each other in a shared virtual environment.

In addition to these virtual worlds, there are also metaverse platforms that focus on creating immersive experiences for specific industries or purposes. For example, virtual events platforms like Hopin and Remo allow users to attend and participate in virtual conferences, trade shows, and other events in a shared virtual space.
As the technology behind VR and AR continues to advance, it is likely that the concept of the metaverse will become more prevalent and widely adopted. It has the potential to revolutionize the way we interact with each other and with the digital world, and could potentially lead to the creation of new forms of communication, entertainment, and even commerce.
