Estate Agents: Zero Cost Pay Rise For Your Staff (You Make Money Too)

Estate Agents do this all the time. From mortgages, home and contents insurance, energy performance certificates, professional photos - there's a margin to be made in these services and making the most of the right ones can turn a business that's breaking even into a profitable powerhouse.

You may already be leveraging energy and broadband switches in your business. If so, keep reading and you'll see that I'm offering something of greater value - to you, your customers and your employees. When everyone benefits, it's an easier sale.

How Much Commission Can Be Made Per Sign Up?

When your customer bundles Energy, Broadband and Mobile you can typically make £250 for a homeowner or £50 for a tenant. You choose whether this goes to you, or your staff - I've laid out a few options towards the end of this article.

What's in it for my customers? Is this good value for them?

You can offer them the lowest energy rates on the market, up to 5% below the Energy Price Guarantee when they bundle multiple services. The more services they take, the more they save. Homeowners will also receive a £150 welcome credit on their account. There's no-one offering anything close to that at the moment. Octopus recently offered 10% discount on their standing charge, which equates to about £10 per year. Our energy rates save a typical family £125 per year.

How can UW offer these Discounts?

UW offer their customers one online bill, one direct debit and one customer service number (serviced by UK call centres) for all their energy, broadband and mobile services. These cost efficiencies, combined with the fact that they don't have monstrous advertising budgets for TV and newspapers enable these savings to be passed onto the customer. We also have never participated in price comparison sites. Their overhead for customer acquisition is focused on paying people like me to recommend their services and recruit business partners, like you, to do the same.

I grant you, there's plenty of UW Partners out there who you could speak to about this, but how many of them have a history in Estate Agency? 1. Make Money For Yourself

Personally sign up customers when they move house or ask your significant other to do it. Get around £250 per homeowner or £50 per tenant when they take multiple services.

2. Use Our Refer-a-Friend Scheme To Give Your Staff £50 off their Bills Each Time You Sign Up A Homeowner

Do the sign ups yourself, but credit one of your staff as a customer referral when you sign up homeowners. You'll need them to be a UW customer first - they can be some of your first sign ups. Just add their customer number to the order and UW will handle the rest. It's 100% tax free for them and a great perk of the job. You can even incentivise them to get those referrals in the process of their day to day business.

3. Staff Members Do The Work and Build A Residual Income For You

This is great option for owners of larger estate agencies or those with multiple branches. You're busy - I totally get that. Once you're settled in as a UW Partner and have signed up your first 6 customers, give your staff the same opportunity to earn commission. Each customer they sign up becomes a residual income for you i.e. you earn a % of that customer's bill for as long as they remain a customer.

4. Never Pay Your Own Utility Bill Again.

Refer homeowners to me and when they sign up get £50 off your Utility Warehouse bill. You could cancel out your personal bill each month and it's 100% tax and hassle free.
