Independent Living, Inc. is proud to announce the establishment of the Darcie M. Miller Excellence in Behavioral Health Leadership Award. This prestigious award honors individuals who demonstrate exceptional leadership and dedication in the field of behavioral health, embodying the values and characteristics exemplified by Commissioner Darcie M. Miller, LCSW-R, throughout her distinguished career.
Named in honor of Commissioner Miller, who has dedicated 36 years to advocating for individuals with mental illness, developmental disabilities, and substance use disorders, the award recognizes outstanding contributions to advancing behavioral health awareness, advocacy, and support within our community. After over thirty years of dedicated service in county government, Darcie Miller, the esteemed Commissioner of Mental Health and Social Services for Orange County, will retire this summer.
Doug Hovey, Chief Executive Officer of Independent Living, Inc., emphasized the significance of the award, stating, "The Darcie M. Miller Excellence in Behavioral Health Leadership Award celebrates individuals who embody Commissioner Miller's unwavering commitment to inclusivity, innovation, and partnership in the field of behavioral health."

Her commitment to systems change ensures that individuals can turn to any 'Welcome Orange' agency for assistance at any point in their journey, embodying a transformative approach to behavioral health advocacy," Mr. Hovey further explained.
Susan Miller, Chief Operating Officer for Rehabilitation Support Services, reflected on Commissioner Miller's enduring legacy, stating, "Through this award, we honor the legacy Darcie will leave—a legacy of compassionate and effective leadership in behavioral health and human services."
The inaugural presentation of the Darcie M.
