EssentialJen's Essentials - Microsoft Office, Issue #8
Microsoft Office is my comfortable place to seriously get work done.
There are two main choices when it comes to office productivity software –Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
After nearly 30 years of using the Microsoft suite, it’s definitely my preference when I really need to power through some serious work. Aside from feeling as familiar and comfortable as a favorite pair of shoes, I find it offers many more features than its counterpart, Google Workspace. For example, I enjoy the robustness of the desktop versions of Microsoft Word and Excel, compared to Google Docs and Sheets.
Microsoft Outlook, with its email, calendaring, task, and contact functions, forms the basis for my day, and is truly the organizational hub for my work. I love having nearly everything I need to organize myself in one window. Microsoft OneNote completes this organizational package and integrates nicely.
That’s not to say Google Workspace isn’t a fine program – it definitely is! I’ve used it extensively for both personal and client work. My personal email is Gmail and I really love some of its inbox features! Luckily, there are ways to use both products when the situation calls for it – such as creating a complicated spreadsheet in Excel, then converting it to Sheets. This allows me to do my "power user" thing in Microsoft Office and bring it to the Google Workspace environment!

1 年I definitely have to sit down with you some day and get more familiar with outlook. I've been using Google for a long time for email and my calendar, but I definitely prefer Word and Excel over Google sheets and docs.
