AI and technology continue to move at absolutely rampant pace and continue to impact social media and marketing. But luckily plenty of smart people are attempting to keep track of trends and get a big picture overview of where things are going. Here’s a handful of reports I've been reading through and referring back to regularly in 2024. Some of these will be updated for 2025 soon, but there is still plenty in here to catch up on.
Bain Technology Report 2024
An excellent executive briefing of the key tech impacting business, along with examples of comercialising innovation, dealing with a shifting technology market, how tech impacts the scoping for M&A deals and the value proposition that brands have held for years; along with owning AI in the enterprise and inside countries as “Sovereign AI” start to make headlines. (85 pages)
Artificial Intelligence Index Report - Stanford University Human-Centred AI?
Now in its seventh edition, it is the most comprehensive report that covers the entire landscape of AI from the excllent nerds that basically invented it in Silicon Valley. Covers everything from machine learning, model training, robotics, emergent behaviour, patents, industry adoption, enterprise deployment and investment flows. (502 pages)
McKinsey Technology Trends Outlook 2024
Essential reading from the "boffins in blue suits" wraps up a large scale survey to indicate where enterprise preferences and investment are going, and the large signals should still be relevant into 2025. Covers generative AI, applied AI, industrialised machine learning, software development, cyber security, cloud, edge computing, robotics, mobility, bioengineering, space renewables and energy. Handy for trend tracking and investments.

Kantar Media Reactions 2024
Funky short report that showcases the shift in attention from traditional media to online and mobile is picking up speed, especially around the aspect of consumer reception to ads. More creative and adventurous advertising in the online space is leading to a more positive reception by consumers, with reception to advertising on TV and OTT digital rising strongly. (21 pages)
The Power of Social Commerce, by Retail Economics
TikTok Shop has been eating Amazon’s market share in the UK and is set to double by 2028. With ongoing tension in the US market, TikTok is doubling down in international markets, going on a hiring spree and building out infrastructure and live streaming / live shopping networks to extend the success achieved in the US market internationally.
