Essential steps for great leadership.

Team leadership involves three core responsibilities: delivering team objectives, building a cohesive and effective team, and managing individual team member performance. The three are separate but related. As a team leader, you need to juggle these three balls, and not drop any one of them.

As a team leader, you have a critical role in building and managing your team to achieve the desired results. It is your responsibility to initiate and conclude the team's tasks. You are accountable for the team's success or failure. You should be comfortable with shifting between the four core styles of leadership: Controlling, Coaching, Consulting, and Collaborating. This flexibility will help you manage your team more effectively and achieve better results.

To lead a team is to inspire individuals towards a common goal. Adapt your leadership style as the team develops. Start with control, then shift to guiding and critical advice. Tailor your approach to each person's needs. Recognize when the team knows better. Encourage discussion, foster collaboration, and inspire greater responsibility. When the team succeeds, step back and let them take the reins. Celebrate mutual accountability and their accomplishments together.

Develop leaders across the team to build a better team. Strong teams have members who inspire, support, challenge and hold each other accountable. A leader's work is never done, even with capable leaders. Keep your message simple, direct, and easy to understand.
