The Essential Role of Values

The Essential Role of Values

**Follow?Untapped Leaders?for more frequent updates and discussions on leadership.**

Hi there,

This week's newsletter is about values as we hold a?Values-Based Leadership?session on September 12th as part of the Untapped Leaders Community (join us!)

There have been some tried and true values that I've held throughout my leadership journey -- some that crystallized themselves more clearly to me when tested.

Some values have been cultivated in the workplace through the lens of working on teams and in organizations, executing my role in achieving a purpose.

But, some values existed well before that. Ones that, at face value, have nothing to do with professional life...but maybe they should. These might stem from our families, our cultures, and our lived experiences that make us who we are.

Here's to exploring our deepest values and having them inform our unique leadership.

As always, thanks for being here.

Write.

An opportunity to dig into what we might be missing in our leadership.

What values do you hold that you typically don't attribute to work or leadership?

What values do you hold that may not be traditionally defined as "professional"?

Wonder.

An opportunity to reimagine deeply embedded leadership structures and practices.

How would you describe your role/job if it was completely values-aligned with all aspects of who you are?

How would you describe your workplace/organization if it was completely values-aligned with all aspects of who you are?

Are there any adjustments you can make to your work or workplace to infuse more of your values? If so, what?

Witness.

An opportunity to learn from overlooked perspectives.

"Everybody comes from their own perspective and their own world. "What does that world look like?" How you were brought up in your surroundings, your religion, your family's core values, the political beliefs that you have, all of these outside influences the person that you are today.

When the world goes through major movements, like BLM, like Asian lives, all of these things that we're going through-- everybody is reacting from the way that they were brought up. Then what does that do in the workplace? Well, workplaces often want to segregate those things that are happening in the world away from what's happening in the business.

You can't leave your baggage at the door because eventually that's just going to pile up to the point where it's not manageable. If every individual looked at themselves from a holistic perspective, when they show up to work, they are the best version of themselves that they can be." -- Jevin Koleth, Executive Coach and Untapped Leaders Facilitator
