Essential French for networking

Networking is an essential part of the life of most professionals and entrepreneurs You might do networking amongst French people. Here are some essentials questions you will need. If it's an older crowd, use the 'vous' form, if it is a younger crowd, like at French Square, use the 'tu' form.

  1. Comment vous vous appelez? Comment tu t'appelles? What's your name?
  2. Qu'est-ce que vous faites/tu fais à Londres? What do you do in London?
  3. Vous travaillez/tu travailles pour qui? Who do you work for?
  4. Vous travaillez/tu travailles pour quelle compagnie/bo?te? What company do you work for? Je travaille pour...I work for....J'ai créé ma bo?te. I set up my own company/business.
  5. Pourquoi vous êtes/ tu es venu à Londres? Why did you come to London? Je voulais améliorer mon anglais. I wanted to improve my English. J'ai suivi ma femme. I followed my wife. J'en avais marre de la France/Grèce/Italie. I had enough of France/Greece/Italy. Il n'y a pas de travail dans mon pays, la situation est très difficile. There is no work in my country, the situation is very difficult. Je n'aime pas le nouveau Président. I don't like the new President.
  6. Voici ma carte. Here's my card.
  7. Est-ce que tu connais quelqu'un qui...? Do you know someone who...?
  8. Je cherche un verre. Où sont les verres? Où est le vin? Il y a de l'eau? I'm looking for a glass. Where are the glasses? Where is the wine? Is there any water?
  9. Vous pensez/tu penses qu'il y a du gluten/du lactose là-dedans? Do you think there's gluten/lactose in this?
  10. Ravi de vous avoir rencontré. Nice meeting you. Je vais y aller, il se fait tard. I'm going to go, it's getting late.
