AI in the workplace: The critical role of soft skills
How are you approaching the use of AI at work in the coming year? For many employers, HR leaders and L&D teams, 2025 will be the year to prioritise AI training. This training may encompass a number of key areas such as best practices, tips on leveraging AI tools, and AI-focused compliance courses, all of which focus on teaching employees the technical skills and knowledge required to use AI effectively.
But have you considered how soft skills could be the key to maximising the use of AI in the workplace?
According to Udemy’s 2025 Global Learning & Skills Trends Report, developing soft skills and leadership, alongside practical applications of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI), will be the main focus for employers in 2025.
As noted in an article by Personnel Today, Udemy suggests, 'this shift enables employers to ensure new technologies are paired with human creativity and innovation as they enhance key soft skills in tandem with GenAI’s growth’.
Soft skills such as critical thinking and emotional intelligence bridge the gap between technology and human expertise. They’re required to ensure AI is used thoughtfully, to evaluate the relevance and value of what is produced, and that it aligns with organisational objectives.
So how can you teach soft skills alongside critical AI training in the new year? Read our top tips for delivering soft skills training with an e-learning platform to find out.
Are you making the most of videos in your L&D strategy?
A recent article shared by Business 2 Community emphasised the importance of delivering a strong employee training and development programme in this highly competitive market and highlighted the value of training videos to boost the efficacy of said programmes.
The article outlined ten benefits of leveraging videos, including knowledge retention (visuals can boost information retention to 65%) and boosting learner engagement rates as employees are 75% more likely to watch a video than to read documents, emails, or web articles.
Have you incorporated videos into your core L&D offering? Plenty of our clients have experienced the benefits of utilising training videos in their e-learning solution, and the same goes for other forms of interactive and engaging content types.
Training content such as flashcards, image hotspots and interactive branching scenarios bring training materials to life, offering similar retention and engagement results.

Leveraging digital tools to enhance management training
An article shared by HR News outlined five ways to help new managers close soft skills gaps, sharing insights on the importance of prioritising leader and manager effectiveness as ‘ineffective management can lead to talent burnout and diminished organisational outcomes’.
One of the tactics outlined in the article was investing in digital learning software for personalised learning to help close soft skills gaps and enhance leadership training.
Highly configurable e-learning platforms with personalisation tools such as personalised learning pathways, recommended learning, and learner dashboards make it easy for employers to tailor management training to suit the needs of managers based on existing skills and experience.
The article highlighted the value of AI tools to create ‘realistic scenarios within a structured setting, facilitating feedback and enabling managers to hone their abilities in crucial areas like negotiation and interpersonal communication’. Alternatively, you can use branching scenario interactive content using your e-learning platform to deliver the same learning experience – find out more about this type of training content here.

Enhancing mentorship with an e-learning platform
A recent article by Personnel Today called for a focus on mentorship schemes for junior workers. Recent studies have highlighted that ‘the main driving force behind employee engagement is now development, in the form of career progression, learning new skills, and personal growth’.
To boost employee retention, employers need to deliver development opportunities that meet the expectations of driven employees - opportunities such as mentorship programmes.
The article discussed the benefits of mentorships as ‘mentors can help junior employees identify skill gaps, set career goals, and develop personalised growth plans’, along with the challenges of delivering meaningful mentorship programs in the era of hybrid and remote working.
Our solution? Use a feature-rich e-learning platform that can not only support mentorship but maximise its results. Read our blog to find out how you can use an e-learning platform to enhance popular mentoring methods.
