What is the future role of AI in L&D?

2023 was a pivotal year for the widespread adoption of AI technology, with many people using popular tools such as ChatGPT to help them with a broad range of everyday tasks from drafting emails to creating weekly meal plans. As we move into the new year, AI tools will likely become further engrained within our daily lives. This is especially true for the workplace, as many organisations continue to recognise the benefits of utilising AI across all areas of business – particularly L&D.

The HR Director’s recent article discusses the role of generative AI and how it is changing the L&D landscape. The article explores advantages such as looking at how it can help organisations create personalised learning plans, and adaptive learning pathways, along with using chatbox interactions and recommendation engines. It also notes the importance of generative AI models that ‘can quickly generate high-quality learning content, reducing the time taken to produce engaging resources. A course that previously took half a year to develop could potentially be created within weeks using AI.’

So how can you embrace the use of AI tools to elevate your L&D content in 2024? Join us on the 11th of January for our upcoming webinar, 3 Practical AI Tools For Bespoke E-learning Design, as our expert panel demonstrate how to generate learning modules using artificial intelligence. 2024 HR Trend: L&D focus

Forbes recently shared their top five HR trends to look out for in 2024, with number five being ‘Skills plus learning and development’. The article highlighted the importance of L&D, now more than ever, as ‘leaders need to deliver not just L&D programmes, but a learning culture’. The edX study cited in the article found that although over 50% of executives believe their organisation provides employees with a strong culture of learning, only one in five employees agree. In 2024, HR and L&D teams need to focus on tackling this imbalance by fostering a culture of learning across the entire workforce.

One way to create a powerful learning culture is to employ the learning loop concept. A learning loop refers to the iteration of four key stages that create a continuous cycle of learning and development. These four stages are knowledge acquisition, application, feedback and reflection.

5 learning technologies trends to look out for in 2024

What can you expect from the world of online learning in the coming year? To help organisations like yours stay ahead of the curve, we recently shared our top five learning technologies trends to look out for in 2024.

The blog discusses concerns around attracting and retaining talent with the right skills in 2024 – an issue that affects 75% of business leaders in the UK. One of the trends that will help overcome challenges around labour and skills shortages is learning in the flow of work using learning technologies, with micro-credentials playing a key role in supporting employees with skills development in 2024.

Another key trend we’ll see in 2024 is the use of learning technologies to deliver lifelong learning opportunities to upskill and reskill workers throughout their careers.

With tools and functions such as automated learning plans, user-generated content, and LMS assessments, employers can successfully afford CPD opportunities to their workforce long-term.

The power of user-generated L&D content using an LXP

The Training Zone recently shared an article that celebrated the use of user-generated content within the L&D space, noting that it ‘can be used to create more agile and engaging learning solutions at a time when L&D is increasingly squeezed for time, resources and budget’.

User-generated content can come in a number of formats, from blogs and presentations to podcasts and videos. Employees simply need resources that enable them to create and share content – which is why many organisations are embracing learning experience platforms (LXP).

With an LXP, the focus is on empowering learners by putting the learning experience in their hands and encouraging them to play an active role with features such as content curation tools, collaborative tools, personalisation technology and user-generated content creation tools.

With an LXP, users can engage with one another by sharing content, skills, and knowledge, along with working together on projects and L&D activities. L&D teams can deliver powerful training methods such as peer-to-peer learning, adaptive learning, and mentoring – find out more about this, along with more information about the power of user-generated content and SMEs by reading our recent blog.
