Should managers take on a coaching role?

In an article titled, ‘Should HR just let managers manage?’, Personnel Today placed a spotlight on the pressure faced by managers who are expected to ‘coach’ their teams.

In addition to carrying out typical duties, managers are expected to take on a coaching role. However, as the article points out, many employees won’t want to open up to their managers "for fear of it consciously or unconsciously denting their company career or promotion prospects".

Allowing employees to get the most out of the coaching process will require an impartial coach who isn’t in an objective position. So where does this leave employers looking to facilitate workplace coaching?

In our guide to mentoring and coaching, we explore the value of an e-learning platform for facilitating both development practices. By using e-learning technology, managers can have full visibility of coaching practices, allowing them to keep their distance but intervene with additional support when necessary. Google is launching AI-focused schemes – is it time you did too?

A study carried out by Public First and commissioned by Google found that nearly two-thirds of jobs across Britain could be enhanced by the use of AI and that every sector of work will be impacted in some way.

With a clear understanding of the pivotal role that AI will play in the future of work, Google is launching a range of schemes designed to identify the ways workers could improve their AI skills, along with the best ways to deliver AI-based skills training.

Google boss Debbie Weinstein expressed the need for people to get on board with AI sooner rather than later, framing this as a "once-in-a-generation opportunity to empower British workers, by equipping them with future-focused AI skills to help develop their careers and grow UK businesses".

There’s a sense of urgency in the way that the tech giant is approaching AI skills development. Is this a window of opportunity that all businesses should be taking advantage of? Is now the time to invest in AI training for your employees? Read our AI training blog to help you decide.

What is experiential learning?

Are you familiar with the dynamic approach to L&D, known as experiential learning? Moving away from traditional passive learning, this method requires learners to play an active role in the learning process.

We recently shared our ultimate e-learning guide to experiential learning, starting with David Kolb’s Theory of Experiential learning, and then moving to explore examples of this powerful learning method along with its many benefits.

We also looked at the many ways that e-learning software can support experiential learning to maximise learning outcomes. This includes delivering consistent learning outcomes, seamlessly blending practical and theory-based learning, along with saving on costs and resources. Click here to read it now and be sure to get in touch if you’re looking for a feature-rich platform that can help you deliver quality experiential learning opportunities.
