ESRIC NEWS I December edition

ESRIC NEWS I December edition

In 2023, we marked three years since the European Space Resources Innovation Centre (ESRIC) was officially launched. The result of a partnership between the Luxembourg Space Agency and the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) , with the European Space Agency - ESA as strategic partner, ESRIC was a world first. From initiating new research programmes, to launching the ESRIC Start-up Support Programme, and running our flagship community event Space Resources Week, we are extremely proud to play a key role in the creation of a future in-space economy.

In this third edition of the ESRIC newsletter, we are thrilled to bring you our brand-new podcast: Resourceful, give you some news on Space Resources Week 2024, announce the extension of the 4th call for applications for the ESRIC Start-up Support Programme, as well remind you about our community consultation around ESA’s future Ground-Based Pilot Plant (GBPP), ran in partnership with Space Applications Services NV/SA .

?? New Podcast alert ??

The integration of in-situ use of space resources has the potential to completely revolutionise the way space exploration is being conducted. In the long term, it can decrease the costs associated with space flights, it can make our activities in space cleaner and bring circularity into the space equation. In the first episode of the series, we would like to understand more about what space resources are and the potential they have in making space exploration a cleaner and more sustainable activity.

We have asked Katherine Joy, professor of Earth Sciences at the University of Manchester to share her experience as a planetary scientist, as a space enthusiast and as someone who has been to one of the most remote places in the world to conduct science.
