This was ESG's 2023

As the sun sets on 2023, it's time to reflect on yet another year filled with groundbreaking achievements. From Belgium to the Netherlands, let's zoom in on our contribution to the progress of renewable energy production and sustainability to our society.?

1. Powering the ELIA grid

We acquired land in Harmignies (part of Mons) to build a grid scale battery directly connected to ELIA. With a permit and subsidy granted (Capacity Remuneration System (CRM)), we are all set for the construction of a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) with a capacity of 75 MW/300 MWh. Our BESS in Harmignies is scheduled to be live as of Q3 2025. A similar project will be executed in Auvelais and is planned to go live in 2027.

2. Steady grow for Hyperfast

Meanwhile, Hyperfast's expansion in fast-chargers, with some still under construction, underlines a commitment to electrifying the future. We end 2023 with 18 operational chargers and 7 chargers under construction and aim to reach 100 Hyperfast DC-charging stations by the end of next year.

3. Dutch Dynamism: Aadijk, De Raak, Swan, and Oude Mol

Our Netherlands based projects contributed substantially to the renewable energy map with key projects like Aadijk, De Raak, Swan, and Oude Mol.

Oude Mol

Oude Mol stands out with ownership of ground rights, permits, and allocated subsidies for a robust 25-year lifecycle. Contracts with Vestas and various subcontractors for cable installation, foundation works, and electrical works are in place. We anticipate the inauguration of four turbines by the end of 2024.

Vital Stats of Oude Mol Turbines

  • Hub height (blade attachment point): 125 meters (for perspective, the Atomium is 102m)
  • Rotor diameter: 162 meters
  • Peak height: 206 meters
  • Capacity: 6.2 MW per turbine
  • Location: South Holland, near Hollands Diep

Aadijk

Aadijk shines as a 45.5 MWp solar project, operational as of December 31st 2023. The project's timely completion within budget, secured corporate Power Purchase Agreements (PPA), and land acquisition by Patronale Life all contribute to its success.

Swan/DGEC

Swan/DGEC soared to new heights with a 120-140 MWp ground-mounted solar development project. The grid connection is scheduled for Q1 2025. Securing land rights for 30 years and rezoning nearly 100 acres of agricultural land sets the stage for a sustainable future.?

4. A bright future ahead?

With a capital increase of €70 million in 2023, Energy Solutions Group is not only able to increase the capacity of its renewable energy production park but also its team size – doubling from 18 to 36 members. Our expanding horizons even extend to office renovations, doubling the workspace of our Belgian headquarters in 2024.

5. Reflections and Future Visions: CEO’s Perspective

In the words of Bert Creemers, our CEO, we are on track to achieve our goal of a portfolio exceeding 2 TWh of produced/traded volumes by 2026. A Buy, Build & Hold strategy allows us to maximize the added value of our projects over the lifetime.? Maintaining a strong financial health and a clear focus on all relevant green technologies (solar, wind, BESS and EV), we intend to remain the leading green IPP in the Benelux region.?

As we say goodbye to 2023, these milestones echo a resounding commitment to a sustainable, energy-efficient future. The journey continues, and with each project, we collectively illuminate the path toward a greener tomorrow.
