ESGO Raises Standards of Care in Advanced Ovarian Cancer Surgery

Dear ESGO members and colleagues,

In 2016, ESGO set an objective to improve the surgical?management?standards of?advanced ovarian cancer by providing a set of?quality indicators?and a scoring system,?which can be used for self-assessment and institutional quality assurance programs.

European?institutions fulfilling these?requirements?can apply for?the?ESGO recognition of accredited centres for advanced ovarian cancer surgery. In addition, high quality accredited centres can also apply for the?Centre of Excellence award.

ESGO aims to have?one accredited centre?for advanced ovarian cancer surgery?per 10 million inhabitants,?or at least one accredited centre in each European country.

To date,?66?centres across Europe?and?3 South Korean centres?have been accredited for advanced ovarian cancer surgery. Out of these,?20?European?Institutions were accredited as?Centres of Excellence.?

Our gratitude for the accreditation assessments and audits of the applying centres goes to an international panel of 12 leading experts, and especially to?Prof. Denis Querleu,?Prof. Christina Fotopoulou,?Prof. Bjorn Lampe, Prof. Dimitrios Haidopoulos, Prof. Santiago Domingo,?and?Prof. Frederic Guyon?for their incredible work and dedication?over the accreditations in 2022.?
