The fall season of major global sustainability events is in full swing: Following Climate Week NYC in September, stakeholders from around the world will convene for major UN biodiversity and climate conferences over the next several weeks.
On Oct. 21, representatives from governments, business and the scientific community will gather in Cali, Colombia, for the UN's biodiversity conference, COP16, to discuss how to implement the Global Biodiversity Framework agreed upon in 2022 and how to close the financing gap for nature. And in November, countries will convene for the annual UN climate conference, COP29, in Baku, Azerbaijan.
We’ve outlined five big ideas we expect to carry through from discussions at Climate Week NYC to COP16 and COP29, including the need to rapidly scale climate and clean energy finance; the importance of linking climate and biodiversity strategies; and the role of AI in combatting climate change.
In this week's ESG Insider podcast, we talk with the Chief Science Officer at the newly launched S&P Global Climate Center of Excellence about how climate scientists and business leaders are collaborating with governments and communities to find solutions to climate change, the energy transition and nature loss.
