Escape with Us

Season 6 of our Crazy Town podcast returns today, March 13?with episode 79! It's hard to believe that Asher, Jason, and Rob first got behind the microphones on March 13, 2019, as na?ve, young podcasters ready to take on the world.

Before we dive into the theme of season 6, let's take stock of what Crazy Town has covered so far...

In Season 1, our hosts explored the fundamentals of humanity's sustainability crisis.

In the first episode of the podcast, Asher, Rob, and Jason explore how tough it can be to keep from going crazy as our society rushes headlong toward the cliff edge of environmental and social meltdown.

In Season 2, our hosts navigated the COVID pandemic and the unjust politics of denial and delusion.

In the first episode of season 2, Asher, Rob, and Jason uncover lessons from the misadventures of an oxen team, a $10 million lawsuit, and an avalanche of emails about thorium, hemp, and overpopulation.

In season 3, Asher, Rob, and Jason analyzed the hidden drivers of our environmental and social predicament.

In the first episode of season 3, your hosts try to overcome their own biases and uncover how human irrationality has driven us into a sustainability crisis where climate change meets overshoot.

Season 4 featured the documented watershed moments in history.

From irrigating fields to building canals to damming waterways to bringing water into our buildings, we've engineered more and more complex ways to tame water. And in so doing, we've changed the environment, both aquatic and terrestrial, and we've changed the course of human history. What we do with water matters even more in the era of global warming. Can we learn to treat this most precious of resources in a way that achieves sustainability?

And finally, throughout season 5 last year, our hosts performed a painstaking takedown of the Phalse Prophets.

Meet the unelected leaders of Crazy Town, who keep our collective heads in the sand while the planet burns. For an entertaining deep dive into the theme of season five (Phalse Prophets), read the definitive peer-reviewed taxonomic analysis from our very own Jason Bradford, PhD.?

Now that we've spent half a decade meticulously examining all of the crazy-making topics of the 21st century, we're ready to give you: Escape Routes.

Each episode this season will focus on a different aspect, or “ism,” of the unsustainable, unjust, and generally junky world of overshoot, and explore ways out. We’ll cover oh-so-fun topics like industrialism, capitalism, extremism, and technologyism; look at them through the lens of Cultural Materialism; and share ideas and stories about breaking out from their death grip.

This week's episode lays the foundation for the season and it's now available wherever you get your podcasts. Plus, you can read all of the transcripts this season on resilience.org.

To all of our listeners who have stuck by us through the 80's movie references, Jason's birding obsession, and the general doom and gloom of it all: thank you. We know it isn't easy diving head-first into the myriad of ways humans have dropped the ball in the past 200+ years, but these stories are important to share and we value your support immensely.

We hope you enjoy the new season, and maybe together we can find some escape routes that will lead to a sustainable and just future.
