Down the context this can be any content including mis/disinformation, hate speech, and extremist content. in a simple context, a rabbit hole refers to an experience that consumes your time and attention, often in a way that's unplanned or unintended.

Social media platforms are using various ways to create rabbit holes. Once you enter to a rabbit hole, some times it getting hard to escape from that. That what the social media algorithm do. Its more way advance than we even think.

There are few ways that social media platforms use to drag and keep users in to rabbit holes even without their knowledge.

  • Endless Scrolling: Social media algorithms are designed to be addictive. They feed you content likely to keep you engaged, and features like autoplay make it easy to lose track of time. You might start with a quick check-in and end up an hour deep in a stream of cat videos or celebrity gossip.

You might start with a news headline and find yourself clicking through related articles, then watching embedded videos, before realizing you've strayed far from your original purpose.
  • Engaging with Divisive Content: Social media can be a breeding ground for strong opinions and heated discussions. You might innocently comment on a post, only to get drawn into an argument or debate that spirals out of control, consuming your time and emotional energy.
