Imagine summiting Everest, taking in the amazing views, planting a flag for your country, and taking selfies. While you celebrate summiting, the reality is that your survival hinges on your safe descent.
Descending Everest is the most dangerous part of the journey, with more than 50% of all deaths happening after people summit. Jon Krakauer famously wrote about this in his book, “Into Thin Air. ” He summited Everest in 1996 on a gorgeously clear day. But a fierce storm took out four of five of his teammates during the descent.
Why it Matters
Similarly, when you acquire new customers, you are only halfway to the destination. Those first 90 days are like the “death zone” on Everest, with more than 50% of customers churning because they fail to obtain value quickly enough.
On Everest, you must have a plan to descend the mountain safely.
In the same way, you must quickly and safely guide customers to their destination, and their success outcomes.
That way, they will stick around and buy more.
