Our purpose is to create connections that make the unimaginable possible. #ImaginePossible
“The journey to mission-critical 4G and 5G began several years ago, the first networks are now live, and many rely on Ericsson's solutions. We’re honored to share best practices at CCW 23 event.”??
Manuel Ruiz, Global Head of Mission Critical Networks, Ericsson?
?
The most important global event for critical communications, TCCA’s Critical Communications World (CCW) 2023, happened just a few weeks ago. The event brings together mission-critical and business-critical end users with manufacturers and suppliers for inspiration, knowledge sharing, and connections.?
This year’s event was by far the largest since the pandemic, with customers and government representatives from all regions. The number of customer engagements was the highest we ever had, primarily driven by the market moving into the early-majority phase of critical mobile broadband adoption across Europe and our offerings that perfectly match customers’ needs. ?
During the three days, customers and visitors from government agencies, public safety, rail and utility industries experienced our solutions through presentations, demos, and discussions about the potential of mission-critical mobile broadband. We are back, enriched with new insights into how the key players in vital verticals think forward and how we can support them on their journey into 4G and 5G mission-critical communications.
In this newsletter, we’re sharing the highlights of what visitors experienced at our engaging demos and what they heard from our experts.?
Our experts on the CCW 2023 stage?
Six of our experts were on the CCW stage this year, participating in presentations and panel discussions.
Some of the topics discussed: ?
Manuel Ruiz shared insights about migration towards critical broadband based on experience in deploying dedicated mission-critical networks and collaboration with public safety network operators, communication service providers, and end-user organizations in North America and Asia.??
Nicklas Sp?ngberg shared experiences of collaboration with government agencies to explore user-equipment behaviors and how 4G and 5G perform under jamming attacks, as well as possibilities to use algorithms in 4G/5G radio networks to detect, locate, identify, and mitigate jamming and its impact.?
Mikko Karikyt? discussed the importance of information and experience sharing to preempt network security challenges and threats.?
Focus forum addressed the questions: What is meant by massive mission-critical video? What are some of the typical use cases? What challenges does it introduce, and how do we expect to overcome them? On the stage, we had Sanne Stijve and Jason Johur.?
Check out our event brochure for more details. ?
But first, take a journey with us into the space of CCW 2023, and see what it looked like in Helsinki, Finland, from May 23 to 25, 2023.?
Our mission-critical solutions can support various verticals, from the government and public safety sector to the rail and utility industries. Visitors saw concrete use case portfolio, including video surveillance and mission-critical push-to-data or push-to-video, as well as a specific network evolution story.? Complementing the dedicated public safety network with public network coverage to support high-capacity critical broadband services has been one of the most frequently addressed topics.???

5G-powered virtual control room presented how public safety agencies can establish control rooms in a much shorter time. It aggregated mission-critical voice and live video/data feed into a single virtual interface and showcased how team leaders from different government agencies can log in from different locations.?
In this short video, shared by Fiona Fan, Philip Brimblecombe, Head of Strategic Programs for mission-critical networks in Europe, talks about the user benefits of such a solution.??

Cradlepoint, as part of Ericsson, showcased its Cellular Failover solution, which ensures reliable connectivity in mission-critical situations. The demo presented proof of why Cellular Failover has become a game changer for agencies now that digital transformation requires connectivity to always be up and running to support their mission every minute of the day.?
The end-to-end ecosystem, from applications to network solutions and devices, including chipset compatibility, for PPDR band 68 (also known as “700 MHz”) is in place. The band 68 spectrum has been reserved specifically for Public Protection and Disaster Relief (PPDR) in Europe. Governments and operators in Europe can now deploy an additional connectivity layer that offers more resilient mission-critical broadband connectivity to first responders. We demonstrated mission-critical mobile broadband services over a live network on the band 68 spectrum in collaboration with Streamwide, Crosscall, and Qualcomm Technologies, Inc.??
