This is the 76th article in the?Profiles in Knowledge?series featuring thought leaders in knowledge management.?Eric Tsui lives in Sydney, Australia and is a professor at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) and Vice President of the Hong Kong Knowledge Management Society (HKKMS). He is an educator, consultant, author, speaker, and community leader.

Eric specializes in digital knowledge networks, cloud innovations, knowledge management, Industry 4.0, MOOCs (massive open online courses), learning theories and pedagogies, open education, global classrooms, eLearning, innovation, digitalization, and entrepreneurship. In 2020 I responded to Eric’s call to record a 5-minute video on?the roles and responsibilities of a KM officer in an organization.

Eric joined Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC) after years of academic research in automated knowledge acquisition, natural language processing, case-based reasoning and knowledge engineering tools. His research strengths include cloud-based business innovation and knowledge services. He joined PolyU in 2005 and has served as the Program Leader of the Master of Science in Knowledge Management degree program and Associate Director of the Knowledge Management and Innovation Research Centre (KMIRC).

Eric is one of the three original developers of the COLOSSUS Expert System for handling bodily injury and workers compensation claims in 1990s. He is an honorary advisor of the Hong Kong Police. Correctional Services Dept and Efficiency Office in the HK government. He has designed and launched two MOOCs: “Knowledge Management and Big Data in Business” and “Industry 4.0: How to Revolutionize Your Business” on the MIT edX platform.

His current interests in KM (through collaborative research, training, or consultancy service) are digital literacy, personal learning environment and networks, and KM technologies including search engines, portals, personal knowledge management (PKM), and knowledge cloud services. Eric conducts research in cloud intelligence, blended learning, knowledge-enabled business process management (BPM), communities of practice, and platform ecosystems. He teaches and consults on KM, taxonomy creation and maintenance, content and document management systems, BPM, service Innovation, and communications.
