?? Eradicating Economic Violence: A Call to Action from an M&E Expert

As an M&E Expert deeply engaged in the realm of women's empowerment and gender equality (GEWE), I find it crucial to shine a spotlight on a frequently overlooked dimension of Gender-Based Violence (GBV): Economic Violence. Today, I invite you to join me in delving beyond statistics, connecting with the real-life impact it has on individuals.

Economic violence, often insidious, manifests in various forms, from subtle financial control to blatant career sabotage. It's not merely a statistical figure; it represents the silent erosion of dreams, aspirations, and financial independence.

In my journey within the GEWE space, I've witnessed the quiet struggles of friends and colleagues ensnared by economic constraints imposed by gender-based discrimination. Denied opportunities, unequal pay, or coerced financial dependence are not just challenges; they are profound wounds that permeate the fabric of our society.

Addressing GBV, particularly economic violence, goes beyond individual justice—it is a collective responsibility. The repercussions extend far beyond the immediate victim, affecting families, communities, and the workforce at large. When economic potential is stifled based on gender, we all lose out on the richness of diverse perspectives and talents.

As an M&E Expert, I believe that our journey towards a world free from economic violence requires collective awareness and action. It transcends policies and protocols; it entails fostering workplaces and communities that champion equality.

Strategies for Change:

  • Advocate for Inclusive Policies: Encourage organizations to adopt policies ensuring equal pay, opportunities, and protection against economic violence.
  • Supportive Work Environments: Foster workplaces that prioritize diversity, equity, and inclusion. Champion environments where everyone can thrive, unencumbered by gender-based constraints.
  • Educate and Empower: Knowledge is power. Let's invest in educating ourselves and others on the subtle signs of economic violence and collectively challenge these norms.

By shedding light on personal stories and realities of economic violence, we can catalyze change. Every step we take, every conversation we initiate, contributes to dismantling the structures perpetuating GBV.

Let's be the change we wish to see. Together, let's foster a world where everyone has the opportunity to spread their wings and soar.
