The era of Artificial Intelligence(AI)

Alan mathison turing was the first person who puts the foundation stone of Artificial intelligence (AI) by inventing bombe machine during second world war. The bombe is an electro mechanical device used by the British cryptologists to help decipher German Enigma machine encrypted secret messages during world war 2. The Enigma machine is an encryption device developed and used in the early to mid 20th century to protect commercial, diplomatic and military communication. It was employed extensively during World war 2. From there, today we are reached here the days of IBM Watson, Auto pilot cars, etc. Artificial intelligence (AI) is the simulation of human intelligence processes by machines, especially computer systems. 133 million job opportunities going to be in AI in future, 58 million in few next years and AI will add 16 trillion to GDB by 2030.

What is AI, AI is teaching machine to learn, think and act like humans. Based on the strength, breadth, application, AI is classified into three types that are Weak or Narrow AI, Strong or General AI, and Super AI or Conscious AI.

Weak or Narrow AI  

Weak or Narrow AI is that applied to specific domain for example Language translators, Virtual assistants, Self-driving cars, AI powered web searches, and Intelligent spam filters. Applied AI can perform specific task, but not new ones. Making decisions based on programmed algorithm and training data.

Strong or Generalized AI

Strong or Generalized AI is that can interact and operate a wide verity of independent and unrelated tasks. It can learn new tasks to solve new problems and it does this by teaching itself new strategies. Generalized AI is the combination of many AI strategies that learn experience and can perform at human level intelligence.

Super or Conscious AI

Super or Conscious AI is that with human level conscious , which would require it to be self-aware because we are yet able to adequately define what conscious is, It is unlikely that we will be able to create a conscious AI in the near future.

Lets differentiate some of the closely related terms and concepts

Machine learning

Machine learning is a subset of computer science that uses algorithms to analyze data and make decision based on what it is learned, with out being explicitly programmed.

Deep learning

Deep learning is a specialized subset of machine learning that uses layered neural networks to simulate human decision making.

Neural network

A neural network is a series of algorithms that endeavors to recognize underlying relationships in a set of data through a process that mimics the way the human brain operates. Neural network take inspiration from biological neural networks although they work quite a bit differently.

Our future with AI

Now our technology is so much better and so much more advanced that we're really ready to move on and to tackle much more challenging problems that have this kind of ill-defined or kind of messy nature. Every industry from oil and gas, to healthcare, to media and entertainment, to retail are just being swamped by a tsunami of unstructured data that can be multimedia. It can be images. It can be video. It can be text. And it's really the ability to understand that data that is becoming critical. One of the most valuable applications of cognitive computing is in the health domain. Medical providers, physicians, nurses, assistants face enormous challenges leveraging all of the available information that's out there. The physician has got a lot more information and knowledge at their disposal to help them make the best diagnosis possible. Clearly, there's this intersection of what the computer can do and what people are able to do, that gives you something that's better than each of them individually. What is going to be truly interesting is to see what is the best way for them to have really symbiotic type of interaction; taking the advantage of each other's strengths to collectively solve a problem. So I would be looking forward to a future in which AI plays a central role in freeing us from the dull, mundane, dirty, dangerous jobs and hopefully providing us with more time to spend with our families, and better health, potentially better health care, through data analysis. And so I think if I envision the future that I hope will come to pass in a number of years, we'll be really leveraging these technologies to make our lives better and to free ourselves from dull, dirty, dangerous work.
