EQX Biome's Rainforest Defense System featured in Barron's

EQX Biome was recently featured across the global news cycle, including in Barron's , the leading investment magazine, highlighting our unique approach to “Bringing Wall Street to the Fight for Nature" and our efforts to save nature with a for-profit business model.

Underlying this effort is our innovative Rainforest Defense System (RDS), which identifies key biodiversity-rich regions that are facing big threats and can rapidly organize and deploy highly effective project measures to neutralize those threats. In all cases, the RDS protects biodiversity and benefits humans more than the extraction those measures avoid.

As the article notes, our RDS is being deployed in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to protect 30% of natural areas (there, named "ESPA", an Economically Successful Protected Area), to defend against the largest auction of rainforest areas to oil drillers in human history. A staggering 8 billion tons of carbon are at risk; and thousands of species at risk of extinction. The region is subject to a scientifically-documented "tipping point" -- large-scale disturbance could (and likely will) trigger an unstoppable die-back of the entire Congo Basin.

EQX Biome believes that nature deserves a stronger, bolder partner in the fight against nature destruction.?We are all in on this – and bringing all our tools (private capital, speed, efficiency, expertise and relentless focus) to it. And because humans are the only threat to nature, globally, all solutions are designed to benefit (and value) respecting nature more than any gain from extraction and destruction. This is the power of our business model, which is bold and perhaps even aggressive in comparison to traditional conservation.

But make no mistake: while we are forcefully fighting for nature, the results are gentle and kind: more protected space for nature to thrive (and perform its complex miracles in peace), while also improving livelihoods locally. Unlike traditional conservation, our approach does not require local communities to give up anything: our model ensures that people benefit more from protecting and respecting these natural areas than if they take from it, whether through oil drilling or otherwise. And that is the result of the real economics of avoiding nature destruction.
