Equity vs Equality

Words matter – this we know.

That’s why we think it’s empowering to be interrogating the language we use to check out if it’s aligned to our goals and learnings, or if there’s a newly coined, more up to date or altogether more appropriate term that fits the topics we’re addressing.

With that in mind, this International Women’s Day there was a lot of talk in the media about Equity, it being this year’s officials IWD theme.

SO, HOW ARE EQUITY AND EQUALITY DIFFERENT?

Put simply,?equality?is giving everyone access to the same opportunities and resources, whereas?equity?acknowledges that every individual has their own unique circumstances, and allocating the exact resources and opportunities accordingly, with the goal of reaching an equal outcoming.
