Equitable Development and Environmental Justice

Equitable Development and Environmental Justice

The U.S. EPA Office of Environmental Justice updated its website in late March.  There is now a page on ‘Equitable Development and Environmental Justice’ - https://www.epa.gov/environmentaljustice/equitable-development-and-environmental-justice.

EPA has several ‘place-based programs’.  This page helps to explain how environmental justice is a place-based (or planning) issue.  The site features six sections, including:

  • Overview
  • Planning Issues
  • Gentrification
  • Workshops
  • In Practice
  • Resources

Launch of the new page is important and timely.  Discussions about equitable development have increased in prominence in the context of sustainability and planning policy.

It's good to see equitable development and environmental justice initiatives getting support from the federal to the city level governance!
