THE EQUIFAX CATASTROPHE FOR 145 MILLION AMERICANS AND THE GUN ATTACK IN LAS VEGAS
THE EQUIFAX CATASTROPHE FOR 145 MILLION AMERICANS AND THE GUN ATTACK IN LAS VEGAS by Kevin Geary
The real problem, at bottom, is an amazing disconnect between those in government, the corporations and the people (remember "WE the people"? Apparently the government does not understand the concept!)
We, the voters, citizens, legal immigrants and just plain "folk" as Obama irritatingly called us, are totally irrelevant to the cocooned residents of Congressional Washington.
Oh, sure, they want our votes every two or four or six years, and they spend millions or billions to get it, largely by seeking money from the corporate heads and modern "robber barons" of Wall Street, and other such "enlightened individuals" such as the heads of Equifax, who make hundreds of millions "monetizing" the data that they steal from each and every one of our people, without our knowledge, consent, or even ability to personally protect our credit and good name by placing a hold on releasing the details to our very own data to total stangers, who often pay just pennies for the report, whilst we are charged a fee to have a hold placed on our information! And, instead of being able to access our own information via credit reports for free, you are charged insane fees to do so! Additionally, it's estimated that the credit bureaus have as much as 40% erroneous information on all of us! And it takes forever to fix it, even when you send absolute proof of error!
In other countries, like nearly all of Europe, especially Germany, your data is protected, and even giants like Microsoft and Google get taken to court regularly for basically invading people's privacy and selling it to third parties! Why? Because in Europe, unlike in the good ol' USA, they have politicians who take privacy and consumer protection very seriously! Why? Because it seems, for all their faults, politicians in Europe recognise that the people need protection from rapacious corporations with no conscience or even understanding (it seems), that what is terrible for the average citizen (bad air, poisoning of drinking water, the oceans, etc, and pushing opiods, drugs that can kill you, and failing to protect their customers' information), is something from which they are NOT totally exempt!
In Congress however, there is a sort of mindset that pervaded the court of Louis XVI before the revolution, or the court of Tsar Nicolas of Russia, before their revolution. The elites (and Congress, who routinely exempt themselves from legislation they create) are so out of touch with "We the people", as to be almost more elitist than the banking and corporate elites, whose bidding they do, in order to raise millions to ensure they can run ads scaring people about their opponents, so they can get people to vote not FOR them, but AGAINST the other guy!
So no consumer protection is ever enacted; no gun protection, where you can buy a piece to add to an assault weapon, to essentially break the law, and create a fully automatic machine gun, and kill more people than with a semi-automatic weapon! And, countless ways the Congress is out of touch, in an ivory tower, dedicated to supporting the drug companies, the insurance gougers, the polluters, the criminal bankers, the crazies in the NRA, who actually support a piece that can make a lethal assault weapon even more lethal, etc, because "THEY are the PEOPLE" to members of Congress!
As the late George Carlin said, "It's called the American Dream because you have to be asleep to believe it!"

7 年Kevin, I don't live in The States, as you're well aware, nonetheless from my viewpoint, many of your comments are very pertinent to the point of literally hitting the nail on the head - and many of the ills that you have described have spread to a certain extent to The Old Continent as well alas....albeit not quite to the same wuthering heights where you currently reside. But times are a-changing, as they say! Have a great day(I'll be in touch soon!)! :-)
