-Marcus Aurelius
What I learned this week:
There are two things that hold true for all of us: time and death. We all have the exact same amount of time to live our lives each day, and we will all die. Yes, a couple of billionaires are spending their life fortune searching for the fountain of youth. That has been sought after since Ponce DeLeon, and guess what? No one has found it. Since none of us will live forever, we must ask ourselves what we will do with the time that we have. The amount is unknown, of course. We can choose to live in anticipation of death or choose to live with knowledge of death. Here's what I mean, anticipation means we think about it, worry about it, and fear it. Knowledge of death is the realization that our time is finite, and when it is over, we are no different than any other person. We are dead. Because we don't know when death will come, why do we put things off? Why do we do things that we regret? The moment of your life is clear, and the moment is now. If you say to yourself, "One day we should…" what are you doing to do it? Do you have a plan? Is it on the calendar? I know there are a lot of things that I say I would like to do. Some are in the "Wouldn't that be nice" category, and others are in the "This is a goal" category, meaning I am not just talking about it. I am working towards it. I have known too many people who use death's knock on their door, cancer, or a friend's death as an awakening. Don't wait for that. You have the same amount of time today as everyone else on this earth. Nothing is stopping you from doing what you want to do but you. Take your 24 hours, your seven days, your month, and the rest of your life to pursue what you want and live how you want.
If you'd like to learn about one of the exercises I teach, The Ideal Day, give me a shout. It will help guide you to live how you want today.
Planning thought of the week:
Our minds have a time fallacy. No matter how good a planner you might think you are, allocating time is always tough to do. We had a plus or minus two-minute execution window for our operations. That usually meant we got there early and had to hold up somewhere so we didn't arrive too early. The time fallacy is that you think you can do more than you can in a day. The inverse holds true. You think you cannot achieve X, Y, or Z in five or ten years. Both are wrong. We can only do so much in a day, and we can do more in five or ten years than we can even imagine! Don't limit yourself for the future or burden yourself for the day.
Business idea I heard about or thought of:
As I write today, all I can think of is snow removal because we are in the middle of snowmagedon '24! ????. It also gets me to think of the opposite, flowers. It won't be long before Ms. Suzanne talks about the flowers we will plant in our flower beds. I know landscaping companies will do this, but I'm not thinking there. I'm thinking of enterprising teenagers. I grew up walking the streets of my neighborhood, offering to mow lawns. There isn't much lawn mowing around where I live. There are a lot of flower beds, and to add to that, there is a high school just down the road. I would love for a couple of teenagers to come up and offer to plant our flower bed and set it up for us. My business rule of thumb is if I would like that service, you can bet there are several more folks in and around our neighborhood who would also like that service. It's a lot better than working a part-time gig at Qdoba. Where are the enterprising high schoolers?

Someone I met this week:
I've got a problem (truthfully, lots of them ??). I started seeing an acupuncture doc a week ago. No, this isn't about Otis complaining about his back. This is a time thing. The doc, Jim, is a great guy and a great acupuncture doc. The problem is Jim and I have hit it off. I mean, when I go back for my 1-hour appointment, we spend the first 30 minutes shooting the shit! Jim is a fun guy to talk to and tells some great stories, which I love! He has also helped me to become more flexible with my militaristic plus or minus two-minute time window! Yeah, the acupuncture is beneficial, but what I truly enjoy about my appointments with Jim are hanging out and chatting. If you are in the Colorado Springs area and looking for an acupuncture doc, give me a shout, and I'll connect you with Jim. I may share some of Jim's stories in the future.

Leveraging time wisely is key ??? - like Buffett says, we can't buy it back. In business, as in life, planting seeds early (be it flower beds or ideas) cultivates future success ?? #stoicism #leadership #growth
