Equal Access for Every Child: Octoped’s Vision for Quality Pre-Primary Education by 2030

It was a typical evening in Cambodia when I stumbled upon a group of children, their faces alight with curiosity, gathered in a makeshift classroom in a back garden. Led by a local tuk-tuk driver named Jimmy, these eager young minds, some without shoes and dressed in worn clothes, were learning English with what little they had. Every evening, as I walked past this humble school on my way to dinner, I dropped a dollar into their donation box.

One day, Jimmy caught up to me with a request that would change the course of my life. He asked if I could help the children practise their English. "In England, are your cows friendly like our cows?" one child asked innocently. I smiled, explaining that while I wasn't an expert on cows, the ones in England were indeed quite different from the thin, pale ones they knew.

This encounter, under the dim light of a flickering bulb that eventually gave out, did not dampen their spirits. It was in the darkness, listening to their aspirations of becoming tour guides or hotel managers, that I saw a spark—an undeniable drive and resilience in these children. They had dreams just as vivid and reachable as any child in more privileged parts of the world, except for them, circumstances presented obstacles that were quite frankly unfair.

Back home, the memory of Jimmy, these passionate children and their makeshift classroom inspired me to become a teacher.

Despite working in fancy international schools with more resources than I knew what to do with, I never stopped thinking about the immense barrier that lack of resources presented.

Fast forward to 10 years later, to the release of Chat GPT and the start of the development of Octoped 's network.

I realised I finally found a way to help.
