EQ Impact?: What Had Happened Was...
Nicole F. Smith, MEd
Using my signature EQ IMPACT? Framework and expertise in emotional intelligence, I help leaders & aspiring leaders maximize their EQ, be emotionally brilliant, and empower them to be the leaders they desire to to be.
So, funny thing—I realized I forgot to send out my newsletter this morning. So, I missed my newsletter deadline this week. At first, I panicked—because that’s what we do, right?
But then I took a breath, looked around, and realized… the world didn’t stop turning. The truth is, we’re all juggling so much right now. I get it and I do understand.
Between prepping for the holidays, wrapping up end-of-year work projects, and navigating this “we’ll get back to that after the holidays”?energy, it’s easy for things to slip through the cracks. Add in post-election buzz, the constant stream of cringeworthy news, and just life, and no wonder our brains are on overload.
I then asked myself, What’s the real consequence here?
The answer: ABSOLUTELY Nothing major. No lost revenue. No harm done. Just a missed deadline. So, I did what any grace-filled human would do—I made a new deadline. That’s why you’re getting this newsletter now. (The world is still twirling.)
Here’s the truth: I simply forgot. With so much going on, my mind was in everywhere but December. Here's what I've been juggling:
Here’s what I’ve learned: It’s okay to miss a deadline. It’s okay to make mistakes. What’s not okay is beating ourselves up over it.
Let me say that again, It's OK to make mistakes.
Instead:
Here’s my big takeaway—and one I want you to share with others as we close out the year: Mistakes happen.?Instead of beating ourselves up, let’s take a breath, evaluate the impact, and adjust. Maybe put systems in place to avoid similar mistakes in the future, but most importantly, give yourself grace.
As you wrap up your year, remember:
Mistakes are just opportunities to pause, learn, and grow.
Here’s to finishing 2024 with grace, perspective, and a whole lot of self-kindness.
As we head into the holidays, let’s focus on what really matters: being present. Enjoy the moments that make this season special, and let the rest wait until January if it needs to.
Mistakes will happen. Life will “life.” But there’s always room to reset and move forward.
So, if you’re feeling overwhelmed, here’s my advice:Pause and
Take a breath. Give yourself grace. Focus on what you can?do. And if something slips through the cracks, it’s okay to pick it up tomorrow. (Tell them Nicole said so!) ??
Let’s end this year with kindness—for ourselves and others.
