ePostcard #7: A Greek God’s Love Story, Conflict, Fiesta & Charging Your Electric Body

Dear Reader,

If you recall, we mentioned the medieval market that took place last week. The celebrations continued this week as well! There was a live concert at Plaza Mayor (Main Plaza). Despite the crazy rains, people still had a great time.

Apart from that, we’d like to discuss 'conflict'. Why do people fight? We're not talking about war, as that's manufactured by certain world powers—it's a business, but let's not get into that today. Why are there differences in today’s society?

Sure, ego is involved, no doubt. Many people consider ego to be a bad thing, but is it really? Think about it—if it were bad, we would never have it in the first place because divinity doesn’t make mistakes. Ego, or in fact, anything in this universe, isn’t inherently good or bad. We tend to view things this way because our dimension is characterized by duality. It helps us learn lessons and have experiences. Ego is indeed essential because it helps us safeguard ourselves.

Without getting lost in the topic of ego, let’s return to the original discussion—why conflict exists. The reason is simple: perspective. The same event can be viewed from different angles, and when perceived, it goes through the belief filter that a person has based on their lifelong experiences (society, events, education, media, etc.). Especially when people are judging others (should we really be doing that!?), they aren't in the other person's shoes. Therefore, they'll never know everything that needs to be known, and the judgment they formulate is always based on incomplete knowledge and understanding. What do you think?

So, are you having the aha moment right now? It’s as simple as that! If others don’t understand this, that’s alright. We can be wiser, more understanding, forgiving, and loving. In fact, we won’t feel the negativity, frustration, and anger that feels like a burden, like the heaviness that comes with holding grudges and other ill-feelings. So what’s there to lose? :)

The Culinary Herb for Fevers, Digestive Issues & Menses

A celebrated Greek god, Apollo, son of Zeus and Leto during the 8th century BCE, was revered and feared by ancient Greeks. This god had a deep association with the plant world because many mythological stories about him involved alchemy, such as turning humans into plants. The most interesting one is the story of Bay Laurel leaf (Laurus nobilis) and its origin. God Apollo was struck by the arrow of Eros, the god of passion, and was spellbound to the extent that he persistently pursued Daphne, a nymph who unfortunately had no interest in this immortal god. Daphne cried out for help from her father to set her free from Apollo’s grip, and she was transformed into a Bay Laurel tree before Apollo could reach her. He embraced the fact and vowed to honor Daphne forever by wearing a laurel wreath on his head. He declared her eternal youth as the leaves never turn brown or fall off. That’s how Bay Laurel became a symbol of victory, honor, and protection. It’s not just a culinary herb; herbalists use the leaves of the plant as an infusion tea to break a sweat during a fever, reduce flatulence, and initiate menses.
