EPM's Empower Hour Live

One of our new initiatives developed this year is the Empower Hour Live we host every Friday. In 2020, we began holding weekly Town Hall meetings via Zoom to maintain relationships virtually and connect to a shared vision across our company. 

We asked various experts to join us and help coach and build on our mission and vision. That has evolved this year to Empower Hour LIVE

It's more than an informative presentation. EPM leaders host an interview and conversational format to bring clarity and focus to the different ways we can achieve our vision. The interview-style presentations allow for a broader perspective that viewers can then apply directly to their lives.

We were recently lucky to have the CEO of Insight Global Coaching, Bronwyn Morrissey, join us. Bronwyn, a Leadership Executive Coach with roots in the mortgage industry, shared her concept of "Thinking above the Line."

What is Thinking Above the Line?

We dedicated our hour to strategizing solution-based thinking —or above-the-line thinking— through moving away from identifying with fear-based thinking, focusing on the challenges instead of the solutions.

Bronwyn's framework helps us recognize a problem within ourselves and guides us to be proactive instead of reactive. A vital distinction for our day-to-day lives. 

At EPM, we always try to come with a fuller vision of what. We foster all-encompassing, collaborative, intuitive thinking. Diversity of thought enables us to meet our goals. It empowers others in ways beyond just focusing on what's happening to us at this moment. Allows for us to expand our perspectives and truly make compromises for the betterment of all. That is what being growth-minded is all about! 

Notable highlights from this hour-long conversation included:

• Pause when we feel stuck or anxious. When we catch ourselves thinking below the line, pause and reflect on our perspective. Taking a breath and disrupting the neural pathways we are creating that guide us to thinking below the line helps us reset and refocus.
• Because of where we have been for the last year, we have to start doing things differently. Habitual practices keep us from thinking differently. Taking an opportunity to pause and approach the situation differently can make all the difference.
• Have accountability coaches and partners. It's natural for us to find connections with other humans. We want to promote the kind of partnerships at EPM and in the industry where we lean on each other to keep ourselves honest and focused on positive goals.
• Coming from a place of love and service helps us tap into our potential to approach our work above the line consistently. We are about empowering others. It's about lives, not loans at EPM, and if we stay focused on that mission, we will find opportunities and solutions.
• Be Intentional- Get out of your head. Stop mindlessly functioning and reacting to those things around us, and start focusing on the purpose of what we are doing. How do we do that? We focus on the goal and on the positive steps to achieve that goal. Get clear about the purpose and stay focused on that instead of the roadblocks. The solutions to the roadblocks will make themselves apparent.
• Have a roadmap to success. Come with a game plan and a purpose behind your actions.
• Diversity of thought and having new and different perspectives at the table is a significant priority.

It all starts with leadership- attitudes, thoughts, beliefs, and perceptions. We have to work on making sure we are approaching all things above the line. Our legacy is bigger than our business.
