Episode 89: Mezcladita

Episode 89: Mezcladita

Hola familia! On this new episode, I talked to Gabriela Milla from Apple TV+ hit bilingual show, Acapulco. In this incredible comedy-drama show, Gabriela portrays the role of Isabel who is one of the dopest mujeres you'll see on TV.

Typically, we see the stereotypical Latina but her character shows a different side that's rough around the edges, strong, loving, and knows what she wants.

This episode is full of admiration for the role of Isabel and her energy. But we also talked about Gabriela’s first-gen story and the self-love journey that led her to her role in Acapulco.

It was such a beautiful conversation about chasing your dreams, navigating the ebbs and flows of it, and learning to choose yourself through it all. Here's a sneak peek:

“It's really not about what you achieve, it's about the journey and the person you've become along it.” -Gabriela Milla

This girl’s journey is so relatable to many of us! She went through some toxic relationships that catalyzed the inner growth that led her to understand big lessons in her life. And after healing from that and from chasing her acting career with the pressure to make it happen, she learned that, in the end, it wasn’t about achieving but about learning to let go and choosing herself.

“You either can look at a painful experience or a rough time as a time to feel sorry for yourself or a time to be like, you know, this is a great growth spur that I'm gonna go through.” -Gabriela Milla

Like many of us, Gabriela had time to reflect and focus on her healing during the pandemic. She reflected deeply on her relationships with work, men, and especially with herself. And when she decided to go back to acting, she did it with a different energy that allowed her to approach life with less attachment, be more open to the lessons, and be in a better space to receive opportunities.

In this episode, we also talked about:

  • Our personal experiences growing up as bilingual Latinas
  • Owning both her Venezuelan and Honduran sides
  • When her love for the arts began
  • The beautiful portrayal of Latinidad and dreams in Acapulco
  • The representation of Latinas on screen
  • And so much more!

Tune in to hear more about Gabriela’s first-gen story, her self-discovery journey, and all the chisme on how she landed the role of Isabel. And if you haven’t seen Acapulco, go to Apple TV+ and enjoy this beautiful, funny, and culturally relevant bilingual show. I swear, you’re gonna love it!
