With experience in international business, sustainable development, climate change, and sociology, Gemma Santana has developed a comprehensive vision for projects in the private, public, and civil society sectors that have a triple impact—on the economy, society, and the environment.
Gemma is a co-founder of and an environmental activist with Voto x El Clima, which engages in climate action with citizens and politicians.
She also currently leads a social enterprise, LATAM Finance, dedicated to strategic sustainability consulting. She is the creator of communication campaigns to raise awareness about forest and water conservation with Selvame del Tren.
She also founded Transfo, a social enterprise to help organizations that depend on donations become economically sustainable; is a Council member of the Sustainable Finance Committee of CI Banco; and is engaged in social organizations like Education for Sharing.
As a public servant, she worked at the National Institute of the Entrepreneur from 2012-2014 and served as the Director of the 2030 Agenda in the Presidency of the Republic from 2019-2021.
In the latter role, she coordinated the national strategy of the 2030 Agenda in Mexico, the legislative strategy based on the 2030 Agenda. She helped to generate budgets supporting the 2030 agenda in more than 20 Mexican states.
In 2019, Gemma brought Nobel Peace Prize winner Muhammad Yunus to give the keynote speech at the National Council of the 2030 Agenda. Gemma is the author of "Social Entrepreneurship, Business for Peace,” published in 2017.
She has lived with indigenous communities in Oaxaca and Chiapas for nutrition and socio-environmental impact projects. Gemma was recently named one of the most inspiring women in Mexico by Excelsior Group and RSVP.
