Episode #2- Conversation with Dean Furness
"No one can make you feel inferior without your consent." - Eleanor Roosevelt
I cannot admit more that I (& we all, I believe) have fallen into this trap of comparison. This conversation with Dean is centered on this point of comparison and how we let imposter syndrome takes over our sanity.
Dean has also covered it beautifully in his Ted Talk about how personal averages make a difference in our lives. And we have extended this thought of personal averages in our conversation as well.
"There is nothing noble in being superior to your fellow man; true nobility is being superior to your former self."
-Ernest Hemingway
Do see Dean's Talk to get a broader perspective.
A bit about Dean
Dean Furness is a data and analytics professional. An accident in 2011 left him as a paraplegic without the use of his legs, but after several years of rehabilitation, hard work, and encouragement from his physical therapist, he competed as a wheelchair athlete in both the Chicago and Boston Marathons. He now speaks about his experience and what it takes to face difficult challenges.
Furness continues to train for marathons and aims to inspire others through a positive approach to owning each day. He is a husband, a father of three, and a basketball coach.
