Episode 14: A Farewell to Prompting?

It has been only a bit more than 10 days since the launch of the GPT Store. How much have we learned from these 3+ millions of custom GPTs??

For $20/month, we get to play with more than 3 million versatile GPT Specialists that are evolving rapidly every day. It’s quite remarkable, isn’t it? No, I am not saying this to promote OpenAI’s product – i.e. this newsletter is not sponsored by OpenAI, and neither do I receive any commission from them, lol.

And congrats to top players like Consensus GPT which has received more than 1 million promptings as of January 23, 2024. It’s an AI search assistant that allows users to search more than 200 million research papers.?

For sure, we are quite aware that this GPT Store is only two weeks old–still a wild wild playground with lots of room(s) for improvement–which means lots of opportunities as well.

In the past two weeks, many people have raised some questions such as “GPT 4 itself has a vast knowledge base that has been applied in different industries and many different areas of interest–i.e. it has been acting like a specialist if you know how to prompt and ask. Why should we take an extra step to use these custom Specialists?”

One good example is Universal Primer GPT which made it to the top in the education sector since the GPT Store opened. GPT 4 itself is a universal portal already. Why do we need another universal portal? Please check it out for the right answer when you have a moment. It has gotten 69,583 promptings on January 23. And it has 8 copycats behind it.?

I built my first custom GPT, Idea Visualizer, two months ago–what I have realized is that I haven’t gone back to the native GPT 4 since. Why? Because I can get my work done with my custom GPTs without remembering or creating any prompting. Even though nowadays you don’t need as much prompting as before because the native (naked) GPT 4 has its own backend auto-prompting to assist you behind the scenes.?

With these custom GPT Specialists, the whole experience has become conversational. You can simply type in a few words or one sentence of plain request to start your creative adventures. It will guide you through professionally.?

Yes, you no longer need to scratch your head to squeeze some very limited promptings nor to carry 50 or 100 pages of promptings copied from others. Many of these GPT Specialists can walk you through some impressive steps professionally and help you achieve your goals.
