Episode 112: Alan Lazaros & The Compound Effect: Jumpstart Your Income, Your Life, Your Success

Episode 112: Alan Lazaros & The Compound Effect: Jumpstart Your Income, Your Life, Your Success by Darren Hardy

Alan is a podcaster, trainer, and coach who is focused on mastery. His own tragedies, challenges, and close calls in life have lead him to reconsider what it is that fulfills him, reevaluate what true success means, and realize how important it is to help others find their own fulfillment, which too many people confuse with the distorted idea of success. One isn't synonymous with the other.

What is it that has driven him and his partner Kevin Palmieri to record over 1,800 episodes to date of their Next Level University Podcast, all in the service of helping others enhance their own mastery of self, work, business, and life? He explains it here.

In the context of the book he's chosen to cover with me, The Compound Effect by Darren Hardy, he focuses on what ongoing, disciplined work looks like and reaps in rewards. We talk about what that looks like when it's founded in mindset and forged in identity.

I appreciate Alan's candor and his formulaic approach to life, work, and business. And "formulaic" here is not as simple or boring as it might sound. It's anything but simple. It's hard. It's determination, grit, and resilience in the face of self-adversity. It means knowing what you have to do to get what you want, and doing it.

Those of us who don't reach our goals are mired in societal programming, laziness, or comfort, among any number of other factors. We don't stick to the plans we need to execute to get what we want. Granted, there may be some luck involved with some goals, but most of the time, we know what we have to do to reach our goals, we just give in to laziness, discouragement, and obstacles on the way there.

This conversation was a solid reminder for me to not buy into my own bullshit and instead stick to what needs to get done. Mindset is powerful. That sounds cliche, but we regularly underestimate its impact on everything we do. It sets the stage, pace, and drive for what we want.

CONVERSATION HIGHLIGHTS

  • The power of beginning and ending anything with gratitude.
  • What a trauma or upending life event can do to open your eyes.
  • "If you don't have self-belief, those adversities that could end up being your advantage actually just end up being adversity." (read that again)
  • Understanding conscious and subconscious belief in yourself -- and whether or not they reconcile.
  • "Every time you feel lost or directionless, just go back to the script."
  • What makes up the genius zone.
  • Work ethic as a spectrum.
  • Success vs. Fulfillment and the 4 combinations you can fall into.
  • "I want my future to be an amplified version of what it already is."
  • What's your trauma response -- fight, flight, freeze, or fawn?
  • How much do your mentors and coaches really know?
  • Do people believe in themselves the amount they're supposed to?
  • The three circles of the ego.
  • What the combination of metrics, habits, and identity does for you.
  • "The action, the behavior is a vote for identity."
  • Try to do hard shit.

The MAIN QUESTION underlying my conversation with Alan is, How are you sticking to what you need to do to get what you want?

ABOUT ALAN

At age 2, Alan’s father passed away in a car accident. At age 26, after getting into a nearly fatal car accident himself, Alan questioned everything he was doing in life. He questioned who he was and the choices he was making. He was at an all-time low. Filled with regret, Alan searched for answers and found two of the brightest lights he had ever seen. The first bright light was a book by Bronnie Ware entitled, “The Top 5 Regrets of the Dying,” and the second was a Ted Talk by Tony Robbins. Both of these resources helped Alan find his way and guided him to make the choice of going ALL IN on self-improvement to design a life of meaning and purpose. On this self-improvement journey, Alan learned he believed in a heart-driven but NO BS approach to inspiring, motivating, and educating others on what it REALLY takes to get to the Next Level. Today, he is proud to say it is his mission to help others design fulfilling lives, maximize their own unique potential, and build aligned businesses they love on their own terms. Alan has a powerful combination of technical expertise and business acumen specializing in Peak Performance, Productivity, Organizational Design, and Individual, Team, and Business Optimization. He lead a global team at NLU, has given hundreds of trainings all over the world, and has happily completed thousands of one-on-one coaching calls with clients. As he says, It would be his honor to help you get to the Next Level of your life, love, health, and wealth.
