Episode 104: Oksana Yusupova & Limitless: Upgrade Your Brain, Learn Anything Faster, and Unlock Your Exceptional Life?by?Jim Kwik

Psychotherapy, especially in working with children, is a calling that kept seeking out Oksana, even as she made attempts to enter other areas and specializations. Regardless of her attempts to step away, she kept finding herself drawn back into the work with children. When you're that good, you're that good.

Although we discuss Limitless in this episode, Oksana's expertise in childhood psychotherapy led her to write her own book, which was recently published, Focus on Emotions: The Kids' Guide to Themselves.

The power of expression comes across strongly in this conversation with Oksana. The expression of emotions, yes -- because of Oksana's background and career -- but also the expression of self, especially in the face of low self-esteem as well as the immigrant story. For each of these areas, Oksana gives examples of the power of emotions, speaks of navigating through her early-life low self-esteem, and utilized Jim Kwik's book to learn techniques for adjusting to the language when she and her family emigrated to Canada.

This conversation shows just how much can be lost if we don't express what we need through the emotions we're acting out, if we don't work beyond our low self-esteem, and if we don't work beyond communication barriers (in this case, language) to show who we are.

Whether we're an immigrant or not, these are all areas we can learn about and harness for our own understanding and expression. We leave too much on the table if we don't tap into who we are and what we want to share.

CONVERSATION HIGHLIGHTS

  • Emotions are different than what people usually find in books about emotions and emotional intelligence.
  • The benefits of emotions and unlocking the power of their energy.
  • Emotion - The Inner Self vs. Socially Appropriate Roles
  • The power of one's calling.
  • The error in teaching to stop emotions, especially in children.
  • Exhibiting leadership -- in the face of low self-esteem.

The MAIN QUESTION underlying my conversation with Oksana is, How are you utilizing the tools available to you to navigate your emotions, do your best work, and show who you really are?
