Episode 1: Discovering You

Episode 1: Discovering You

Speaking to your inner man and knowing You.

Hello lovely people, how was your week?

Well mine was superb and wonderful and I hope its the same for you as well.

Welcome to the very first episode of the Dilemma of A Job-seeker's introduction series.

Today I have a question for you which is 'Who are you?', How would you describe yourself in a single sentence? type the answer below before we proceed.

Waiting.... Done? okay lets continue.

For so many years I used to think I was the most lost and clueless person on earth because every body around me seems to know what they are about. based on this mindset I also looked down on my self and felt like a loser for the longest time. Until one day, in a lecture hall my lecturer asked us a general impromptu question stated in bold letters "WHAT DO YOU WANT TO DO WITH YOUR LIFE?.

The question hit me so hard like a brick and made me question myself again as usual. But to my surprise, no one in the whole lecture hall of about 300 students could boldly say what they wanted to do in life. I was like why are these people not saying anything, don't they know this already? after more than 20minutes of silence, some people tried to answer but they they were not so sure and firm about what they want to do with their lives. It was then and there that I realised my mistake. I had allowed myself to feel pressured by people who were as confused and clueless as I am.

Self discovery as a way to find yourself is not an end in itself. It is a means to satisfying an end which is self fulfilment. Well I did not share the above story to just tell you about what happened in my class but to let you know that self discovery is a process and that you are not in this alone.

I remember growing up I wanted to be a doctor because my mom kept telling everyone that "this my daughter will be a doctor oo" and so I always had it at the back of my mind that I will be a doctor. Later on I realised I don't want to be a doctor anymore because I don't like the hospital setting and anything that has to do with medicine or whatsover because it makes me uncomfortable, even though I enjoyed learning science. Between then and now, I have changed my mind about my career path so many times from Lawyer to psychologist to social worker to now someone who wants to get into the tech world (Software engeneer).

This is not to say that you have to be all over the place like I was but you need to know that life is a continuous journey and we learn as we go. We are not obligated to get it all right at ones and that is why it is important not to be too hard on yourself. Its up to you to always consult your inner man by looking deep into you to find the answers your are looking for. find out what inspires you, what you love doing without anyone asking you to and pursue that. Not knowing your personality will only make you do things that would not make you happy or add value to you as a person.

Let your self discovery be on a daily basis. Find books you love and read, visit new places and make new friends, it will surprise you how much you will learn about yourself through that. Continue seeking YOU, leave room for error and appreciate yourself for how far you have come. Always remember that:

  • the journey to self discovery is a continuous process, take it one step at a time.
  • Everyone has a different path to their own journey so don't compare and never be too hard on yourself.
  • Trust your maker and enjoy every moment of the journey.

I am particularly passionate about this topic because that is what most of us struggle with as youth of Africa where nothing is certain and our paths seemed to have been defined by society even before we were born.

Did you like today's episode? What new insights did you gain from this? let us know in the comments section and also provide the answer to the first question in the comments. Lets learn and also keep each other accountable.

Also like and share this to help others learn from this.

thank you for reading to this point. Have a wonderful new week and stay blessed.

Till I write to you again stay blessed and continue being your true authentic self.

See you same time same day here next week. Bye!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
