EP6: What is SAP?

Q: 1. To start using S/4HANA, what hardware do I need to prepare?
A: It depends on the platform we choose.
Q: 2.How many platforms does S/4HANA have?
A: There are 2 platforms which are
1.On-cloud
2.On-premise
Q: 3.What is S/4HANA on-cloud?
A: On-cloud means we don't have to invest in hardware ourselves. We run SAP on SAP Data Center.
Q: What is S/4HANA on-premise?
A: Well, we will invest in SAP server ourselves. We purchase hardware and install SAP server in our company.
Q: 5.Which platform should we choose between on-cloud or on-premise and why?
A: The advantage of on-cloud is that we can get started quickly. Because the hardware is ready. We simply study the SAP Best Practices standard business processes template and apply to our business.
The downside of on-cloud is that it ‘s limited for customization beyond standard.
Anyway this is good option for small and medium-sized businesses whose business processes are not complicated , need rapid deployment and not need to invest in IT support. SAP Data Center takes care the maintenance for us.
The advantage of on-premise is that we have full control of customization for our business requirements.
The disadvantage is that there is an additional investment in terms of hardware and IT support. Anyway this is best fit for businesses with complex business processes especially large enterprises.
Q: 6. Besides SAP server, what else to install in our laptop?
A: SAP is client-server model.
A laptop or notebook, is a client. To access SAP system, we just install a small program called SAP GUI (Graphics User Interface) and then we can simply log on.
Another way is that some companies have deployed Fiori as well, which we can work through web browsers such as Google Chrome.
We can also use it through a Mobile app for frequently used transactions such as approvals.
