Ep 49: Herman's Been Thinking... (a lot)
Hello Lovely Listeners,
I hope this message finds you well and thriving! ?? It’s Ali here, and I’m thrilled to share some exciting updates and insights from the latest episode of our podcast, Let's Be Frank.
In Episode 49, Herman and I had a deep, thought-provoking conversation based on another one of his powerful "I've Been Thinking" emails. If you haven’t listened yet, here’s a little peek into what we discussed.
?? Personal Responsibility
We kicked things off with a quote from Jordan Peterson: "Every bit of responsibility you don’t pick up for yourself, tyrants will take and use against you." This really hit home for me. It’s a strong reminder of the power we hold when we take responsibility for our actions and decisions. ??
?? Fixable Problems
One of the quotes that resonated deeply was about treating fixable problems as part of your identity. I opened up about my ongoing battle with food addiction and how I often use it as an excuse for my eating habits. It’s a tough journey, but acknowledging it is the first step to change. ??
?? The Equality Fallacy
Herman shared his thoughts on the concept of equality and how it's often misunderstood. We talked about how recognizing our strengths and weaknesses, and understanding that not everyone is equal in every aspect, can lead to a more balanced perspective on life. ??♀?
?? Distractions from Real Issues
We also delved into how society often distracts us from pressing issues with less important concerns. Herman pointed out some shocking statistics about immigration in major European cities and how this could be one of the underlying issues we’re being distracted from. ??
?? Health is Wealth
This part really felt directed at me! Herman ranted about the importance of questioning long-term medication use and seeking natural alternatives. It’s a call to all of us to be more proactive about our health and not just rely on prescriptions. ??

?? Honest Self-Reflection
Another key takeaway was the importance of not lying to ourselves. We discussed how honesty with oneself is crucial for personal growth and how easy it is to fall into the trap of self-deception.
?? Life’s Ugly Truths
Finally, we wrapped up with some of life’s hard truths. From the realisation that hard work doesn’t always guarantee success to the impermanence of good and bad times, it was a sobering yet enlightening discussion.
? Personal Updates
On a personal note, I’ve been working hard to stay conscious about my eating habits. My new strategy involves writing myself a daily reminder to be mindful of what I’m putting into my body. It’s a small step, but it’s making a difference. ??
I’ve also started going to the gym regularly again! ???♀? I put on my gym clothes first thing in the morning to ensure I get that workout in after work. It’s all about those small, consistent efforts. ??
??? Don’t Miss Out
