??? EP. 3 | Transformational Economics, Ecology, & Equality

An accelerated systems-change is needed for an equitable future on our finite planet.

Forward-thinkers from across history beckoned attention to this matter, from as early as the 18th century. Yet, here we are in 2023.?

Insights from the past and present can help us forge a path towards an Earth4All, within the planetary boundaries. This Silo Solving episode’s conversation sparks such an exploration.

In this guest pairing, the President of the Thomas Paine National Historical Association ( Gary Berton ) and the Co-President of The Club of Rome + Project Lead for Earth4All ?( Sandrine Dixson-Declève ) meet for the first time to converse with me on the topic of “Transformational Economics, Ecology, & Equality.”?

Episode Backstory

The idea for this episode came to mind after I fairly recently read a particular body of Thomas Paine’s work from 18th century (referenced in this episode), for the first-time. Knowing the legacy of The Limits to Growth (1972), reading on the Earth4All initiative (2022), and having a growing awareness of Paine’s legacy (i.e., sparking an ongoing revolution for equality and modern democracy around the globe, etc.), a light bulb went off and curiosity rambled.

Nearly 250 years ago, with the 1776 publication of?Common Sense, and later such works as?The Rights of Man?(1791/92) and?Agrarian Justice?(1796), the unsung founding visionary for America, Thomas Paine, sparked an ongoing revolution for equality and modern democracy. Still, work remains to be done.

Fast-forward to the 1972 publication of?The Limits to Growth, by the Club of Rome, a 50-year and counting revolution in the global sustainability movement began. Still, work remains to be done. Hence, the Club’s newest co-initiative, Earth4All,?which aims to accelerate the systems-change needed for an equitable future on a finite planet, via transformational economics.

History often repeats itself, if lessons go unlearned, and action steps not made.

Another Episode-Themed Playlist!

Three episodes in and I came up with an another bespoke eclectic DJ Silo Solver playlist, inspired by this episode’s theme/discussion, including Earth4All's 5 Extraordinary Turnarounds identified for accelerated change:

  1. Ending poverty
  2. Addressing gross inequality
  3. Empowering women
  4. Making our food system healthy for people and ecosystems
  5. Transitioning to clean energy

With only 4 more episodes left in the Silo Solving limited-podcast series, I figure I'm up for this little creative/reflection exercise. Other songs could have been added. However, it's long enough to get you through a commute.

About the Limited Podcast Series: Silo Solving

The?Silo Solving?podcast aims to foster and discuss sustainable and innovative solutions for our shared common goals. In each episode, I pair two guests from various walks of professional and business life, to step with me outside the realms of siloed-thinking. These human-centered and solutions-based conversations roam within nuanced crevices of thoughts, colors outside of the lines of typical business- and industry-based narratives, by incorporating the liberal arts (i.e., the humanities, arts, natural and social sciences, etc.) into the mix.?

By modeling and creating such interdisciplinary conversations, new bridges of thought can provide opportunities to connect dots and co-create solutions.

Whether you are a leader, a manager, a team player, or even an entrepreneur, regardless of your work background or industry, these intersectional conversations are for the collective workforce.?

A seed that sprouted into this podcast was in part due to my experience as one of 120 participants selected to be the?1st Technology & Innovation class of the U.S. LinkedIn Creator Accelerator Program (LICAP), during the fall of 2022. Thank you again,?LinkedIn, for the opportunity, to learn, discover, and develop as a creator, over those 6 weeks! It laid a great foundation for the development and production of this limited series podcast, my first podcast ever! I was able to apply so much of what I learned through the?#LICAP / #LICreatorAccelerator, to the creation of my podcast this winter.

This episode touches upon topics such as:

#Earth4All #Sustainability #Equality #TransformationalEconomics #Collaboration #SystemsChange #History #Economics #PlanetaryBoundaries #Innovation
