Envisioning the Unimaginable: AI PCs and the Power of Possibility
As the expression goes, “First we shape our tools, then they shape us”, and now we’re in the most exciting period of AI.
There are always three phases to every technological revolution, the installation phase, the turning point, and the deployment phase
The first phase sees the most chaos, enthusiasm, and confusion as new ideas are developed and new theories tested, but ultimately little value is released because to make sense of the new technology, we fit it into the mindset of the old.?
We see time and time again it's innovations that can be fitted into the systems, structures, or business models already in place, that are favored.
The first uses of electricity were not dramatic, we made better versions of things that existed before, better lighting, better motors, electric irons, or electric stoves.
The first uses of plastic weren’t to make brand new things thrust into existence by unleashing human ingenuity, but confusingly prosaic, we used it to replace ivory or horn, to make slightly cheaper combs or buttons.
The second phase is where the unlock happens.?
After the turning point, new inventions gather pace, ideas propel us into new paradigms, assumed design parameters are challenged, new tools are made, new ways of working develop, and the world shifts in a leap.?
?
Plastic didn’t mean better buttons, it meant film, photography, and fashion.
Electricity didn’t mean better toasters, it meant the telegram, the radio, the TV set, the microwave, the TV dinner.?
Computer chips didn’t mean the calculator, but the internet and connecting the entire planet with everything ever known.
It wasn’t the smartphone that changed the world but the app store.?
It’s the turning point that matters most. What goes from impossible to imagine, becomes obvious in hindsight.
This turning point allows us to see a brand new future we couldn’t see before. New possibilities, new futures, new human potential.
We are likely approaching that period with AI.
We have first augmented and improved the ways we’ve always worked with AI, we’ve adapted software to add it as a feature, and we’ve applied it to smooth over poor User Experience.
Now is the moment to completely reimagine what we build—and how we build—with the transformative power of AI.?
This is our chance to shape the world we should have, not just improve on what we already know.
Intel is at the forefront of this revolution, creating hardware designed for AI from the ground up—running AI locally, securely, and seamlessly. Welcome to the era of the?
AI PC—where the PC isn’t just a tool, but a gateway to extraordinary new possibilities.
These next-generation AI PC’s powered by Intel? Core? Ultra processors and Intel vPro? unlock? a new world of experiences designed to help you and your business thrive, I see it in 5 ways.?
We’ve always and rightly thought of People, Processes, and Tools, but now may be the time that tools get so good, that we use the power of their possibilities to rethink how we work, the structures we work in, and even the people we need.
"The AI PC isn’t just a glimpse into the future—it’s here to redefine how we live, work, and create. Welcome to a new era where our tools no longer limit us but expand our imagination. An era where the AI PC, powered by Intel? Core? Ultra processors, becomes the lever that propels us into what’s next."

1 天前Is this a paid post Tom Goodwin ? Seems a bit different to your usual style. Agree on the potential of local compute, would be interested to hear your take on the potential disruption of a move back to locally hosted, private by default software, built by AI? Will it eat the breakfast of commoditised software products? You may well have answered this in your article, so will read now :)

1 天前Stupid question alert - I am not sure I really get why having Ai built into my computer changes the game - isnt the game in the clouds ? or is it a processing speed thing? Aware this is possibly a d'oh moment !

1 天前Well said as always Tom Goodwin. We are definitely at a turning point for AI. History repeats itself with major innovation, bringing both fear and excitement. People worry about how these technologies might disrupt our lives, yet forget how these same inventions went on to create opportunities we couldn't have imagined at that time and can now not live without.
