Environmentalism vs Drilling

I know this post will likely upset a few of my energy industry contacts, but here it goes:

I work in the upstream of the oilfield, usually on drilling rigs. Lately I have been seeing a large uptake in the amount of posts, thrashing the young environmentalists that are trying to make changes. I am an adult, I know the fallacies for the argument of stopping all drilling & fracking.  Oil is used for purposes far beyond creating energy, its used in manufacturing, as lubricants, in pharmaceuticals just to name a few. I am also intelligent enough to recognize that human influenced climate change is real & is happening. If you take the time to look into the data itself & not what somebody's telling you, you will see for yourself that the data is more than compelling, it's real & true.

I'm for jobs, I'm for the environment. It does not mean I am against drilling, but I do support green alternatives for energy. We will still need oil for many purposes, & shifting energy production to other forms of generation creates jobs as well, even though it's not with drilling. It actually will extend the drilling industries life span, which is a good thing.  I support the green movement & I support drilling. You can have both peacefully coexist with each other.

Among others, I see a bunch of posts, picking on Greta Thunberg is a 16 year old, Swedish environmental who was named Time's Person of the Year. It's a shame to see adults so scared of someone or a movement, that they feel it's necessary to attack a 16 year old girl. The young people in the environmental movement are not totally right, but at least they are trying to make things right. They should be applauded for their efforts, instead of being mocked by the same people who say nothing on things they know are REALLY wrong. Too many "adults" prefer to live in there status quo, which involves doing things for the wrong reasons & they know it, but rather than except the truth, would rather throw insults & demean those who are trying to improve the world we live in as a whole.

I hope everyone has a peacefully & joyful holidays. This year, lets all try being nicer to the people who, even if they are a little misdirected, are trying to do good.

Some of your points are good,? others I disagree.? For starters Greta is not an Environmentalist, she is a 16yr old relatively uneducated brat that has a big voice and is most likely being backed by those who wish to see the end of oil and gas.? I totally agree that we need to work together and find green energy solutions but I am absolutely sick and tired of people blaming all climate change on the oil and gas industry.? Take a look at clear cut logging on google earth and see the blight they leave behind on the landscape as well as cutting down massive carbon sinks and water flow barriers.? We have to really get focused on protecting the potable water supplies on the planet and stop taking the water off surface for fracing.? The world is coming into a cooling cycle and the energy sources and infrastructure we currently have in place could play a key role in the survival of the populations as we know them.? We also have to remember just what the planet earth is, a crusty coated old ball of molten rock which is still evolving and changing.?
