Environmental Justice Equals Social Justice! #HappyEarthDay
?Many people don't identify as environmental activists, but regardless of the social justice issue (and there are many) that speaks to you, environmental justice is likely intrinsically tied to the issue. Most environmental impacts are located in our low-income and ethnically diverse communities by design. These communities are typically found in areas "on the other side of the tracks" or highways where industrial uses and its pollution are concentrated. So racial justice cannot be achieved without also fighting for environmental justice. The California Environmental Protection Agency (CalEPA) makes available many mapping tools to demonstrate the collocation of ethnic minorities and environmental impacts to educate the public and public policymakers alike.
?So, on this Earth Day, let's all be "tree huggers" and show care and appreciation for the planet that feeds us, nurtures and bathes our stress away!
