ENVIRONMENT || TRANSPORTATION || SHARED-ELECTRIC MOBILITY || ZIPGO - 2018
Do you know - Earth came into being 4.5 Billion years ago. Then there was vacuum in the wide vastness for 1.2 Billion years. Biology started developing our flora and fauna 3.8 Billion year ago but the Homo Genus that is responsible for our type of species (Homo Sapiens, Homo Erectus, Homo Neanderthals) first appeared after 3.775 Billion years of biology i.e. just 2.5 Million years ago and We, Homo Sapiens, as we are today, fully took our shape – physically & mentally – only 200,000 years ago.
We are just a random outcome of nature and it might happen that after another billion years we might not be on top of the food-chain.
Till we discovered Agriculture 12,000 years ago, we were just simple hunter-gatherers with little to distinguish from other animals in the food-chain but we respected nature the way it was without tempering with its ecological balance. Agriculture aggregated humans in bigger and bigger societies resulting in more consumption than there was production.
And then started The Scientific Revolution just 500 years ago and we started getting answers to unexplored and unthinkable questions and finally we got Industrialised 200 years ago armed with the power of science and since then, we have changed the earth to satisfy our voracious and insatiable desires.
As a result of industrialisation, Global Carbon Emissions from Fossil Fuels, as researched by Department of Energy, have been exponentially appreciating as has been depicted in the graph below:
This increase in Greenhouse Gases has consequentially been resulting in a simultaneous change in Global Average Temperatures with every year making the earth warmer.
The above study by NASA clearly shows how the global temperatures have changed with time getting redder specially after 1950’s.
To be precise, the global temperature has increased by ~1.3 Degree Celsius since 1880.
As per Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the global temperatures are expected to rise to 2 DegC to 4.5 DegC by 2100, relative to pre-industrial temperatures.
This is what’ll happen at that level of global warming:
Now the question is whether we, being the obvious perpetrators of this deterioration of our environment, feel responsibility towards our acts?
We, at ZipGo, do feel the burden of this responsibility!!!
We chose the transportation sector as it is responsible for more than 14% of the overall greenhouse emissions by economic sector.
TRANSPORTATION is a combination of –
- 1st Mile (from one’s home to a nodal point (home/bus-stop/metro station etc.))
- Main Commute (comprising of the major part of the journey)
- Last Mile (from the last nodal point to the final destination (home/office))
And ZipGo’s VISION has been to solve the #dailycommute problem through #sharedmobility (Buses) for price-conscious office goers.
Why #SHAREDMOBILITY
Let me explain it through the context of Delhi/NCR as Delhi is infamous for its pollution woes. As per the table below, Delhi has 1+ Cr registered vehicles for a population of 1.86Cr with a huge ratio of 554 vehicles/1000 people.
In contradiction, the ratio of buses/1000 people has worsened from an already low of 0.25 buses/1000 people in 2010 to 0.22 buses/1000 people. In comparison, China, which has similar demography and population size, has 6 buses/1000 people.
Achieving 6 Buses/1000 people is an infinite dream but as per World Bank the ideal number of buses/1000 people should lie between 0.5 to 1.2. As per this study, Delhi, in its current condition, needs 9300 to 22320 buses. Hence, even if Delhi wants to control this huge influx of vehicles but it can’t do anything until Delhi has 10,000 more buses on road to serve its current demand.
ZipGo, with its vision to solve the Intra-city #DailyCommute problem, is on its way to bridge this gap in public transportation. At the dawn of this new year of 2019, it’s time to look back and observe what we achieved in 2018. Below are the 3 major achievements we had in this past year:
1) VISION EXPANSION TO #SharedElectricMobility
The year started with our funding announcement from Essel Green Mobility (EGM), a subsidiary of Essel Infraprojects Ltd. (EIL) – the infrastructure arm of the Essel Group. This investment has helped us expand our vision further by embarking on a journey to bring #ElectricMobility by bringing electric buses on road in the coming future.
2) ACQUISITION OF SUPREME TRANS (METROZIP) – PUNE
In October’18, we acquired Pune’s biggest private bus operator Supreme Trans to expand our services in Mumbai and enter the Pune market.
3) CROSSING 600 BUSES BENCHMARK || 25000+ RIDES/DAY
Through our expansion in 2018, we have hit the benchmark of operating 600 buses PAN-India in 6 cities – Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore, Hyderabad & Jaipur. With this feat, we are now serving more than 25000 riders on a daily basis.
This achievement is very special to us because through our services, we are influencing educated people to give up riding alone in their cars to commute through our buses (#sharedmobility) with the same or more comfort saving them not just their hard-earned money but also our nature.
Now that the year is ending, we have been reminiscing the year gone by and planning what we want to achieve in 2019. We are encouraged to serve our customers as well as our suppliers with utmost sincerity.
Wishing all our customers a very HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
Urging all in 2019 to #ShareTheBurden of the ruin that we, as Homo Sapiens, have caused and simply #ShareARide & Join us in this journey to #SharedMobility.
