The Environment is for everyone, not just the environmentalists!
EIA 2020
- It will increase the government discretionary power and limiting public engagement in the safeguarding the environment.
- Government will get "Strategic Tag Power". It means they approve any project without compulsion of given a explanation to public and No information on “such projects shall be placed in the public domain”.So it is slap on democracy.
- Many Exemption to project regarding Environment compliance.
- Roads and pipelines in border areas. The ‘border area’ is defined as “area falling within 100 kilometres aerial distance from the Line of Actual Control with bordering countries of India. It will affect the Rich Biodiversity of Northeast India.
- All inland waterways projects
- All expansion/widening of national highways
It means if project is related to road, water tunnel etc. Government will have discretionary power to cut any national park , forest etc.
- Post Facto clearance
In this if anyone damaging environment, they pay only nominal penalty between rs 2000 to 10000 on a continuous basis.
- No Public Complaint. It means no democracy.
- Increase environment clearance limit for construction from 20000 sq m to 150000 sq m. This is disastrous.
So next why government proposed this EIA 2020.
Did you hear about the proposed national highway from center of the Jim corbet national park?
Did you hear about the proposed mining and highway in the Tadoba Tiger reserve?
Did you hear about the proposed mining in the Northeast Rain forest?
And many more.
Environment Impact Assessment Notification 2020 will be a disastrous for Environment and Nation future.
The Ministry has sought comments from the public for the
draft, and the deadline for this is 11 August 2020.
If we do nothing, definitely our future is dark.
The Environment is for everyone, not just the environmentalists!
