The Environment Is Everyone’s Responsibility

What comes to mind when you think about the natural environment? Do you think of it as basically a natural construct, for plants and animals separate from you or do you feel closely tied and connected to every aspect of it. In the world we live in today, surrounded by the many luxuries of modern life, it is unfortunate that most people will fall in the former category. That nature or the environment is something separate from themselves. However this couldn’t be farther from the truth. The fact is we are actually part and parcel of the natural world. Dancing forever together in an intricate balance with the natural ecosystems, with other species with the plants, and even the air round us.

Let us further break this concept down. You wake up, you are breathing; you never once stop to think if there is enough oxygen to keep you alive. Well you should thank green plants, the forests and marine flora around the world for providing this for us. You are constantly on your mobile phone, catching up with news, family, with friends and latest fashion trends. Did you know that there are over 60 raw materials used in making your mobile phone, all extracted from the soils./ rocks including gold, silver, cobalt aluminium and many more. Oh yes and let us not forget fashion. Keeping up with fashion could be severely detrimental to the environment. Did you know that 20% of all industrial water pollution comes from textiles treatment, and dyeing? This is worrying considering we need water for a lot of things including to grow our food, and not to mention 60% of our body is all water!

Female Wave of Change (FWoC) acknowledges that we are part of nature, and we have a responsibility to the environment. This is emphasized though our environmental pillar that is closely connected with a shared vison among our other pillars of the economy, of humanity, education and health. We acknowledge that through education, we can educate ourselves and our society of our role in the environment. With our humanity, we can take responsibility as nurturers and keepers of the environment and preserve it for our future generations. We know that our health and well-being is closely tied to a safe and balanced natural environment and that women can access their rights to financial freedom by being innovative eco-preneurs.

FWOC as a global community of female leaders focusses on action at grassroots level. Last weekend, the Kenyan team exemplified humanity and environmental responsibility this with a community outreach initiative in a Children’s home in Kilifi, Kenya. It was all love for the people and for the environment as the team visited the children home, donated gifts and waste bins; teaching the children to care and take responsibility for the environment. They also planted fruit trees and gave the children a talk on climate change and the importance of trees for our everyday life.

This is indeed the very purpose of FWOC community, bringing women from all walks of life to build a better society, for now and the future. We are excited to be sharing these stories of positive impact of our growth, our resilience, our authentic feminine leadership across the world in our Global Conference on 24th and 25th September 2021.
